The violin sounds like it's going offbeat but it never does. Guitar moves from electric to acoustic seamlessly and that bass 🎸, wow. What a song! For most of Ilayaraja's songs he took under an hour to write the notes, each instrument note written separately as it occurred to him and copied by assistants and musicians and rehearsed. The magic happens when finally recorded. In many interviews his musicians have said they become spell bound when playing with the whole orchestra and listening it for the first time (no mixing separately those days and most musicians these days do not know for which song they are playing for). Ilaiyaraja said in one of his rare interviews that he is unable to write the score fast enough as the ideas come to him as he does each instrument at a time. Every single note you hear in every single instrument is written by him and no changes are allowed. Musicians have to play exactly what has been written. True genius.

@@TheKarthikkane I too thought so just checked jukebox (never watched or followed Sadma as I had the privilege of watching the original in Tamizh many times) - only kanne kalaimaane and pon meni urugudey seem reused - all other songs including vanengum, munnam oru kaalathile seem different in Sadma. Of course this tune was so good that Balu Mahendra wanted in his tamizh movie => en vaanile varum enbe vaa which is also class of its own.
