Nobility typically do documents related to their businesses or things relating to management of their land or servants. Seeing as Charles has next to none of that, I could see why he would want to keep busy.
@ayeoops2 ай бұрын
can you elaborate? bc i definitely need to do more research but sometimes it's hard to figure out which specific things to look up
@jojoslameerrand93052 ай бұрын
you mentioned bridgerton in the video so to use that as an example, Anthony's "job" as viscount is managing the lands they own, collecting rent and taxes from farmers then investing that into businesses. We dont see this aspct but from the Charlotte series we can see some of their land. The Bridgertons are "middle" nobles title-wise but they're implied to have the most money so Anthony would be a shareholder/have equity in multiple businesses as representative of the family. The Featheringtons are new money and AFAIK don't have land which is why they were constantly having financial problems, exacerbated by how the marriage market works. Their storylines are the best example of the business side of noble "work" TLDR they were landlords doing landlord things.
@ayeoops2 ай бұрын
yeah i guess i was confused by the comment of charles having "next to none of that" 😅 i didnt really talk about it, but he does own plenty of land in the countryside and has to manage it. but i guess in the video it didnt seem like it? the fault of a less than perfect script 🤡 he would be taking on the responsibilities of being a landlord, but his dad didn't because he hired a bunch of help to do it for him. (once again i have to research who exactly would have been hired to do this for a lord) i do have the book, "what jane austen ate and charles dickens knew" that i have to read through. hopefully they have a chapter for noble responsibilities

*Smashes the follow button so hard I almost drop my phone* I mean…I’m starting my animation journey, and if you ever want to make games together I’m here; and lots of others are that would be STOKED to play D&D with you. I get anxiety, and I’m the same way; but I was really lucky to find my D&D group who understands chronic pain and illnesses. Just because you have an idea doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea. That’s what experience is; a collection of failed ideas until it slowly starts shaping into more. In your case, you’re already there dude. 😭 You took the plunge faster than most any DM would. You came up with an idea, you went with it, you made characters, you came up with names, you have the artwork, and that’s something special. Even if it’s just D&D for you. You did so well just because and I’m like 👀 I could NEVER 😭

I actually play solo DnD from time to time when I am planning out an adventure for players that I DM. Especially when it is an official module I want to run/ rewrite. Experiencing it as a player first and then discovering what encounters kinda suck and what types of loot are lame is really fun. What surprises me most about running solo DnD is how a story and cool roleplay moments just 'appear' whenever I run the game honestly. That means not pulling punches when the players characters get low, or retconning an event that happened (even if it was super unlucky). Either way, I get a very good grasp on all of the NPC characters as well as how certain combat encounters or other things are meant to be run. Makes it a much better and more prepared experience for my players. My preferred way of playing DnD modules is to make a single player character and allow certain NPCs to be convinced to assist them as sidekicks. I'm very combat and challenge oriented when I play, and running through with an underpowered party leads to some tense and incredible moments. There have been times when I thought it was over until the bad guys just happened to roll poorly on the final hits and give the good guys a chance to clutch. The only downside is that it's kinda hard to talk about these adventures with other people since it's not really a 'shared' experience.
@ayeoopsАй бұрын
yea it's tough too since there's a certain stigma around solo play already in the community and people get turned away when you mention it. there's a niche on youtube that rose up in the past couple years of people recapping the plot of a book or tv show with a chart of characters on their wall. i actually did it myself and found success with that on another channel. so i thought, if people are willing to listen to me recap a couple books for 3 hours (yes my vid was 3 hours long 😭) then they might be down to listen to me recap my solo campaign. some people blog theirs or do an actual play like trevor devall but i dont really journal everything in narrative form or do amazing improv like devall, so this is what works for me!
@ScritRighterАй бұрын
@@ayeoops Yeah, in a way I see playing solo DnD as a way to write a story which you do not have full control of as the author. It's a good exercise which can teach you how to kill your darlings and adapt your storytelling beyond the things you initially had in mind. Writing a good conflict which feels like it puts the characters in danger is often pretty difficult, but solo DnD kinda introduces that with the d20. Just the other day, I had my cast of characters nearly TPK in an ambush from one of the warlords of Avernus. Very dramatic moment which ended up in the death of one of those characters and shook the resolve of another. Now the main character needs to pick up the pieces and push forward. He's helped another character overcome death prior in the story, and he'll do it again.
@ayeoopsАй бұрын
that sounds awesome (not for your character tho 😭) it's giving when people love to break their oc's heart and give them tragic stories
