This is my grandfather, he died before I was ever thought of! My mum was just 17 when he went missing and turned up dead 3 days later, his death was ruled suspicious.

Do you know when he was born and when he made these songs? They resemble sounds of most West African songs from the 1930s to 1950s, between the 1st World war and soon after the 2nd World war, when soldiers and seamen/sailors travelled from port to port along African coasts. Thank you.

I believe you must be right, DCbiglew. I grew up listening to songs with similar flavor in Gold Coast. The Krus travelled all along the West African coast and influenced music during the early years of the 1900s. The songs have same great soulful melodies and rhythms. The only differences are the languages used to sing them on the different ports along the coasts. Thank you for your observation.

This is Exceptional............ Thanks for this post, these cuts bring back fond memories of both my mom and dad back in the days romancing each other in both Britain and Nigeria. Ayinde Bakare is the bridge (Link) between then and now.

Okuboro, the musicians you mentioned actually looked at Ayinde Bakare as an Idol hence they took at him to form their career. Ayinde Bakare was an exceptional artiste.

Nice one, I noticed ebenezer obey, sunny Ade and kayode fashola picked one or two of their lyrics from this great juju maestro. This music is capable of bringing tears to the eyes.

So I 've basically been listening to this non stop for the last months and I 'm amazed . theunderlying beat is eerily similar to the music of the Kru sailors from Liberia and Sierra Leone. A lot of the sailors ended up in Lagos around the turn of the century and no doubt influenced the development of this style of music. If I'm not mistaken, Tunde King, acknowledged to be the father of juju music was a "Saro" thanks for this post. E se pupo
