Romanticism. Art should show not how life is, or not only, but how life can and ought to be. One of the biggest ways her books impacted me is this.

That's the best compliment that I can give her: that Atlas Shrugged was an intense page-turner. I was fortunate that no one told me to read that book or that it was good. No one I knew had even heard of her. It was a completely personal experience, and that first reading can never be repeated. It was *mine* . And it absolutely was an objectification of my values, even though I couldn't put that into words at the time. A priceless gift from the greatest mind, and artist, in history.

She goes into detail about the importance of art in her great book 'The Romantic Manifesto'. (re-reading now)

Much of what is considered art is justified for political purposes. Which is propaganda, not art. Political “art” is for making people adopt a moral code, not an end in itself.

Ayn Rand is the last person to ask about art, especially cause her work is void of it.
