Nobody told us any of the history of the castle when I was a wee lass at Ardrossan Academy. I just accepted it was there; Wallace’s Larder would have been a favourite legend!

We were always told Wallace lost a finger during his battle there, and that is why his Ghost is said to visit the remains.

I remamber my Dad telling us he saw the White Lady at Cannal Street when he was a wee boy in the 60's .
