People have no idea how hard Senna worked...how much he practiced in karts. 10-12 hours a day at the track....every day of the week. He would go through 4 engines in a day.... three sets of tires in a day. Today, such time on the track would $25,000 PER WEEK just in consumables. THAT is how you become a champion.

For the 1979 championship, regulations required drivers from each country to use a unified helmet design. The Brazilian team, including Senna, adopted a yellow helmet with green and blue stripes, a design created by Sid Mosca. This design was chosen for all Brazilian drivers, so several drivers appeared with what would later become known as Senna’s iconic helmet. The helmet only became widely associated with Senna when he asked Sid Mosca if he could keep the design as his personal trademark after the championship. Thus, the drivers at Estoril who wore the helmet weren’t emulating Senna but were following the team’s uniform design choice, which Senna later made famous.
