Most of the freights are either diverted towards GZB (after NZM) or towards Safdarjung (before NZM), only a handful of freights go straight through NDLS.

@@AyushKamal Very rarely at that. Freights headed towards Rohtak & Panipat, almost always take the Ring Rail. Freights coming from those two lines headed towards Ghaziabad pass through DLI. Relatively, DLI and VVKP (adjacent to DEE), see more freights than NDLS.

I guess it's only in the morning and evening hours the freight trains go through NDLS, as the DSJ - DEE/VVKP - NDLS line is occupied by rakes coming towards NDLS from Sarai Rohilla & Safdarjung yards.

@@AyushKamal As far as ring rail route is concerned, the shunting movements between DSJ and NDLS is done quite leisurely. I have seen Shivganga Exp rake move out of DSJ as early as 17:00 hrs, for a 20:05 dep from NDLS. And it literally crawls all the way to NDLS, stuck among the freight traffic. And in the same ring rail, I have seen freights speeding at night (will upload a video soon); because the passenger traffic and shunting movement is minimal. Again, the main problem with passing a freight through a busy station like NDLS is, the length of train. Loco would be at the starter, Caboose would be in Shivaji Bridge/Sadar Bazar. I have seen this issue in SBC as well, during daytime, they rarely send a freight via SBC, because they can't halt it. But at night, when the station is free, they often send freights through SBC, because, there is no bypass line that connects to the Mysuru line.
