Gooseworx and Michael Kovach respond to Jax becoming the most hated character in The Digital Circus

Did you know this in the Amazing Digital Circus
Since the release of episode 2 some fans have been unhappy with the portrayal of jax, leading him to be the most hated character in the show. Gooseworx and michael kovach even chimed in, i’ll break it down.
So in the episode we obviously got a lot of jax scenes, and he was alot more ruder and standoffish compared to in the pilot.
This led to many fans, especially on twitter complaining about the character or saying how much they dislike him.
Michael kovach himself responded to one tweet saying my bad.
And gooseworx made a tweet saying Only the strong Jax fans will survive this show. 😎.
Personally for me i’m surprised that some fans were shocked when he was manipulative and antagonistic, because the pilot clearly set him up that way, it’s just that we got to see more of him. Gooseworx said he gets worse as the episodes go on, and she established him as a chaotic evil character. It makes sense that as the story goes on he’ll get more and more unhinged and aggressive, perhaps being a sort of villain and i think thats pretty funny. Do you hate jax? Somehow I felt like he got less bad tbh, or at the very least funnier. I think the general idea is he acts like a jerk to keep himself sane, but he seems to try to keep things going. He even shows remorse for a split second when Kaufmo's funeral is mentioned before walking off, like he was genuinely sad. I dislike him overall, but I feel like if they keep going with the "he's a jerk but has a good motivation for it" then I'd tolerate him.

Yeah. To be fair, most of the time, evil or generally negative characters are still depicted as pleasant to be around and that's why they have so many people defending them and their actions. Like, for a comparison, Alastor from Hazbin hotel. Is objectively an asshole with little to no redeeming qualities, however, he's still a fun guy to be around, making jokes, singing and not really being problematic unless you actively get on his bad side. Yeah, he'll make a deal with you and steal your soul, but like, that's plot stuff, that's for the characters to face to face. If someone thinks of themselves as a character in that world (like making an OC demon that goes to the hotel) they'll probably imagine to get along with Alastor pretty well, all things considered. With Jax is different, he's not evil, he's just mean. He's the friend in D&D that ALWAYS tries to kill every shopkeeper because he wants a sword for free, or the kid in class that throws things at the people in the front. Is the kind of evil we find in everyday life, just someone who doesn't feel like their actions have any consequences so they do the most annoying things just to get a reaction, because they feel they don't have any control over their lives.

I really like how they're taking the idea of "trapped in a virtual reality" and exploring how different people would respond to that. Two things we need to consider: 1. Episode 2 literally takes place THE NEXT DAY after the pilot. Absolutely no time has gone by for Jax to even consider being less of a jerk- if that’s even a part of the plan for his character. He might end up becoming a villain for all we know. It can happen. 2. This is the first time we’re actually seeing Jax in action out in the field, unlike the pilot which was an “in-house adventure.” Of course we’re going to be seeing a different side to him (or, in this case, the same side cranked up to 10) here compared to at home. His actions actually make me wonder if he was a griefer or just a very toxic online gamer before he ended up stuck.

What makes this even funnier is that he's gonna have DEPTH. I've seen no one talk about the end of the episode where Ragatha tells Pomni about the funeral they made for Kothmo, and it pans to Jax for a few seconds, and it shows him looking guilty. Not rolling his eyes in annoyance (yet), but legitimately sad. And guilty about something. And then he gets an annoyed look and leaves. Im willing to bet while Jax is gonna be an unhinged a-hole. He's gonna have his reasons for that. And i already kinda see why. If we disregard the theory, Jax was a teen (17-18) when he got stuck in TADC. It makes sense why most of his actions/thoughts lean more towards outright violence. But if we disregard that, some people are just gonna get bored eventually of the same routine and games. Jax is just one of them whos mostly fed up by this point. Plus hey, most of his consequences hold no merit as what Gummigoo said: "What happens when you lot leave?" If the whole world just erases itself, whats the point? You could kill everyone, leave, and as Ragatha said, maybe see the same NPCS recycled later in another adventure. Theres no real consequences whatever you do so, screw it. Right?

Every character is adjusting to the Circus in a different way. Kinger through delusion, Ragatha through forced optimism, Zooble through apathy, Gangle through meek compliance, and Jax through frustrated aggression. Pomni, as the protagonist, should be the foil that mixes all of this up and forces everyone to adapt. If the writing in this show is good, Jax will turn out to have more depth to him than just "is a jerk". And since we've already had scenes showcasing cracks in Jax's armor, I'm thinking we will have exactly that. But first, I'm willing to bet Jax is going to get extremely worse before he gets better.

The situation is pretty hilarious when you think about it. In the pilot, Jax was definitely an a-hole, but he sort of walked the line between being rude yet still charismatic. It led to a lot of people headcanoning that “he’s not really a jerk; he’s just hiding his true emotions.” Episode 2 really doubled down on his terrible personality though, so I understand why that made some people upset.

Michael Kovach plays N in Murder Drones, which if you didn’t know, is literally the kindest character in the entire show. How this guy manages to play the rudest and kindest characters in both shows surprises me

That’s kind of mirrors the Valentino situation in Hazbin Hotel. Back when he was properly introduced in episode 2, the fans underestimated him as a pissy henchman to Vox who likes to boss Angel Dust around. It’s not until we see the real Valentino in episode 4 did he became the most hated character in the show, despite the clear evidence of his abuse towards Angel in the past. He even went as far as to threaten to kill the princess of hell to get Angel in line. I wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes one of the final villains in the last season. This is why you should never underestimate your villains.

especially since Gooseworx has been saying pretty much since day 1 that Jax is not going to be a good guy lmao. i remember scrolling through her Tumblr a few weeks or so after the pilot came out and she's been saying "Jax is made to be an ass and will only get worse, he is not going to be redeem[ed/able]" this whole time

That's what happens when you create a story and you don't explain everything precisely and immediately it's happened to plenty of franchises that let the mystery and theory crafting take hold eventually if you don't give people the plot fast enough they'll just make up the plot themselves and then when you give them the plot and it doesn't match their made up one they get angry
