This really highlights the social engineering aspect that happens in GDKPs. They prey on folks that might not know any better to get them to spend their gold to fuel their greed. To then sell that gold right back to the person (RMT) to go on their next GDKP

I'm sure some work that way but on our pve server at least the vast majority are pretty chill prices are fairly reasonable compared too what I have seen on streams and minimum bids rarely go over a couple of hundred (I've never bought gold and have 2 very geared and 2 pretty geared chars mostly from gdkps) the system its self works perfectly fine if the leader isn't a scammer and gold selling wasn't involved, you earn gold for your time spent and then can use that to eventually buy your own gear that you want(and if your smart you boost in a more expensive gdkp and then find a less popular cheap one to buy in)

Yea it's hit or miss really on that aspect. The one gdkp discord server i run with on my alt just lists a piece of loot, the starting bid/increments, and then lets it go and nothing more. The players determine how much they want to bid up to on a piece of gear with no outside input. I saw plenty of sunwell pieces go for under 1k gold and some go for upwards of 20k+ and it was all silent auction like, just the sound of the raid warning noise from the addon constantly updating the top bid. Ive seen some servers that do have people who will try and coerce people by saying stuff like "dude you gotta get it its not a high drop or its your bis you gotta fight for it etc." but those servers also didnt last long on my server.

Back around 14 years ago when I was 11 I first got into WOW and somehow managed to get out of sheer smoothbrain willpower to level 85 from scratch with a dwarf huntard without understanding any mechanic from the game except for how to take and turn in quests, use dungeon finder and that if I kept clicking arcane shot, steady shot and concussion shot in any arbitrary order, eventually most mobs my level went down if I took them 1 at a time. When I watch Boosted go around all I think is how lucky I was that because I was actually SO dumb back then and spoke so little english I was basically unscammable by the community on account of not being able to understand very well other players even when I managed to realize they were talking to me and therefore just making a habit to ignore them.
