Please note that you can be a native speaker of any language and do linguistics. Linguistics is not the science of the English language or any other specific language. Linguistics is the science of LANGUAGE.

@@AzeLinguistics You're absolutely right. What I meant by non-native, I should've specified, is English as it is the medium we use to study the subject (linguistics) and it's quite difficult to understand the concept because of not sufficient English skills sometimes. The way you explained here is very helpful.
