Namaskar ! How are you doing ?
I believe in previous vlog of Azerbaijan series you have explored Sheki village of Azerbaijan very well . Now the time has come for another exciting tour of Azerbaijan village Kish & also you all will come to know about various historical facts about Azerbaijan. Kish village got its popularity for an ancient Albanian Church or Albanian Temple . You will also come to know from where the name Azerbaijan has came .
Let’s start the dicussion of new vlog about Azerbaijan girl & Indian having tea together and then later let you explore the beautiful village of Azerbaijan Kish with the cool facts about History of Azerbaijan. The morning starts with 9:30 am once I wake up , had breakfast , I was surprised to eat home made parantha in village of Azerbaijan, the same like our Indian Parantha but with another name i.e Feteer with the black tea . People of Azerbaijan are really very hospitable.
Later around 1 pm I head out from home first of all to Tourist centre of Sheki , Azerbaijan to meet Azerbaijan girl as she asked me to meet her before leaving for Kish Village . After having tea together around 2:30 pm I headed out for Sheki Bazaar in first bus and then from Bazaar catch 15 number Bus for Kish Village . The distance from Sheki Village Azerbaijan to Kish Village Azerbaijan is only around 6 kms . After reaching , there’s hike of around 1 km to Albanian Church but if you want to go by taxi also available down on main road .
Let’s about Caucasian Albania term , to avoid any confusion between modern Albania of Southern Europe, there’s no any connection in between both . But long time in history when the name Azerbaijan doesn’t exist , the area of Caucasus and around was divided into Caucasian Albania , Caucasian Iberia , Kolchis , Armenia & Atropatene . The name Azerbaijan has been taken from Atropatene which was ruled by Iranian ruler Atropat for around till 323 B.C . Another fact about Azerbaijan name came from word Azer which mean fire in Persian language. Azerbaijan is known as Land of fire . Yanar Dag which is very close to Baku Azerbaijan is must visit place where you see the mountain burning all the time , all year .
I was quite amazed to see many people of village Kish Azerbaijan speaking English , which proves how touristic this village is . Kish Village situated near the Kish river with beautiful sightseeing around . There are several pipes going to the houses of people maybe the water is coming from mountains or where but it’s fresh and drinkable, people takes out any pipe flowing on the sides of road and starts drinking water . Kish village is mainly famous for its oldest & first Albanian Church or Albanian Temple which was completed around 10th century to 12th century , it was considered to be made by St. Elishe in 1st century AD . In Azerbaijan Islam came in 7th century by Arabs before Christianity , Zoroastrianism & Paganism was followed .
It’s also believed that Kish Albanian Church also could be the first & oldest church in whole world because around 5000 years old traces of materials have been found beneath. Around Albanian Church there’a also one Handicrafts shop nearby to have chill & have tea . If you also want to stay in Kish for a night or so , Homestay is also available for 15 Azn / 750₹ . As I have told before there’s not much to explore around Kish Village but you can also do an interesting hike to the famous fortress ‘ Gelersen Gorersen ’ which is around 4 kms around .
This fortress also having very interesting history related to Nadir Shah , powerful ruler in Iranian history. When In 18th century he diceded to rule over Sheki , Azerbaijan which was very important stop on Ancient Silk Road , he sent a letter to Khan of Sheki Khanate to surrender but ruler of Sheki answered ‘Gelersen Gorersen ‘ in Azerbaijani language which means come & see . The fortress around Kish Village was used for defence by Khans of Sheki Khanate .
After listening this word Come & See , Nadir shad got angry and decided to take over Sheki and attacked in 1744 but he couldn’t win over the fortress and returned back so then the fortess got it’s name famous with ‘ Gelersen Gorersen ‘ . Now only ruins are left of Fortress with only broken walls . I planned to go back to Sheki , but came to know there is no any Bus available and the last Bus is only till 7 pm .
While moving forward I met one old couple sitting near the bridge of Kish river , offered me Sunflower seeds , after a while we moved and they left me in front of Sheki Bazaar and park where I met Majid bhai . As Azerbaijan also used to be a Ex- Soviet country , hence our Bollywood was so famous and still . I danced with the shopkeepers in Park on song Jimmy Jimmy , it was really fun . People of Azerbaijan are really very lovable, hospitable and great .
