This reminds me of the immortal Telugu movie, Sankarabharanam (way...way back in 1979) where the protagonist Sankar Sastry faces off with a western-trained musician. Needless to say he mimics every western note with consummate ease, while the other musician is left breathless when attempting even the most basic carnatic notes. "Eastern or western, music is music", the noble Sastry gestures, from behind his kind, shining eyes... leaving the humbled competitor & each of us- listeners- wiser. Now, allow me to 'pan my imaginary camera' to you, our dear Uthara beta. Here's a big bear hug. Bravo!! Yet beware. You're now entering choppy waters, where the purists would sneer at the mashups and the innovative stuff you are bringing to life under the able guidance of teachers such as Raviji & your wonderful dad! While the purists judge you, bow your head with grace. Accept the brickbats with the same dignity as them, bouquets. Its ok. Liberals like your dad & your fans believe that art is elevated under the purist spotlight. Certainly.
