What a difference in fuel consumption compared to that Princess V65 you recently tested.

Yes thats IPS vs shaft's plus lighter displacement doing that.

I believe the third engine only cuts in above a certain speed. At lower speeds you are running on the two outer pods.

I have seen that on a triple rig Riv I drove once but can't recall if this Azimut did the same?

@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife they are that way today. Fairline designed by Mancini possibly not anymore now as he is with Azimut. Princess by Pininfarina. Sunseeker headed by Frabetti. To be fair Italy has also its nice share of top hull designers like Ausonio (mostly Azimut who in the past used Olesinski up until 2000 and Benett), Acampora, Araboldi (possible the best authority on jet propulsion hulls) and Tagliavini. To name a few.

Pod drives are like stern drives high maintenance and dangerous if it hits shallow water shaft drives are better and safer
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
I'd still avoid shallow water even with shafts to be fair. Yes pods are expensive to operate for sure, and more complicated. I think the reason we are seeing a lot of them is because they do provide some very noticable benefits in terms of fuel efficiency and performance at the dock. You can do amazing things all by yourself these days with pods that are just not possible as a solo operator with shafts. But agree you have to pay to play when it comes to pods to some consideration must be applied to this when making your decision.

Is it rated as a blue water boat?

Depends on your definition. I wouldn't try to drive it to New Zealand but yes i'd take her offshore in 2m+ swells and run her down the coast. In terms of her CE rating she'd likely be a B.
