Sometime around 1987 in East Berlin, before the fall of the Berlin Wall. I was a member of the East Berlin Jazz Club and a young and unknown musician performed in our club. Aziza must have been 17-18 years old at the time. Her mother (to this day her manager) by her side. An incredible concert and we could all see and hear how brilliant she is. To this day, this performance is unforgettable for me.

This genius helped me a lot in my music journey, she was a huge inspiration to learn from and look up to... her whole performance in this concert (Live in Munich 1994) is just breath-taking, I memorized every note, every gesture and every little detail of it. You should check her complete discography, I can't imagine anything better...

thanks for making me feel soo old :D anyway, she has been one of the godesses from the period of time that i was a young person, we call it the 90s... whatever, "gaçma gözel" in azerbaijani means "don't run away from me, you beautiful one" in english... and yes, she's an extraordinary woman. i used to know some guys who planned to murder her guitarist before the istanbul concert so that they can "spontaneously" replace him/her...

What do we have here: folk-jazz? A singer clasically trained (in Opera)..., but jazz-oriented. Gorgeous! I think that singing jazz is a much harder "job" than singing opera, bc. requires more than wide range, control and breath support. It requires improvisation and agility skills (I found agility neccessary, in Opera, only in Baroque arias). But this is just my oppinion and I am only an accountant. 🐵 In Romania, we have a few good jazz singers (women) and btw. them, "the marvelous" Aura Urziceanu and "the unique" Anca Parghel (RIP).
