Azlan was originally the lead vocalist for an infamous indie band, Meet Uncle Hussain before he left due to some issues. He later founded a new band 'The Typewriter' but the band was more like "a group to orchestrate his voice" that's why it's called Azlan & The Typewriter.

In Malaysia we tend to use the name of the band almost like a 'surname'...hence Amy the vocalist of the band Search is known as Amy Search, and Awie from the band Wings, used to be known as Awie Wings....other examples: Zamani Slam, Ali Terra Rossa, Noh Hujan. That is why Azlan is known as Azlan Typewriter, because the name of his band is Typewriter
