The power of the B777 GE (I think) engines. Probably needed on 5,500 to 6,000ft of runway by the looks of it. PDL runway in only about 7,700 ft in length. I didn't even see the piano when rotating!

How is oceanic clearence given from here? At my local which is Shannon. An aircraft routing through oceanic aerospace must have clearence prior to take off.

Açores aren't the islands. Açores is the archipelago. Each island has a different name, as you should know.

PDL is the busiest airport in the Azores, just like he says. I fail to see your problem.
