Thanks for covering this and the shoutout! Love this song and a great collaboration with Mick Jones. Sadly the louder the message the less those in power seem to hear. Cheers.

Good morning from Britain! Thanks for the mention. This song, featuring Mick Jones, is from Aztec Camera's, "Stray" album (1990). There is a diverse mix of musical styles on the album, including the beautiful Jazz infused ballad, "Over My Head". Roddy Frame is a great songwriter! I would highly recommend next listening to "Spanish Horses", from the "Dreamland" album (1993).

'Oblivious' is a good one and 'Walk out to winter' and 'we could write letters' .. There's 3 for you. Great band... From Scotland, I believe.

Great band! Working In A Goldmine and Deep And Wide And Tall ate two of my favourite songs. Been a fan since I got the High Land, Hard Rain album decades ago!

I didn't recognise the title, but as the opening bars started, I knew it immediately. It's a great song.

This is Aztec Camera featuring Mick Jones from The Clash, hence the twin lead guitarists / vocalists. Roddie Frame is the other singer/guitarist, who formed Aztec Camera as a 16 year old in East Kilbride, near Glasgow. Earlier Aztec Camera material is much different to this track, which is more of a collaboration and as others have pointed out, you can clearly hear the influence of Mick Jones. "Somewhere in my Heart" is their biggest hit, and worth checking out just to contrast it with this track.

What are the chances, Chris wearing a Clash Tee and having a video featuring Mick Jones, absolute banger of a tune 😎

I remember reading an interview with Roddy Frame in which he realised he’d written a song that sounded a lot like The Clash so he had to invite Mick Jones to collaborate. Frame is a super guitarist: I recommend the album Surf (under his own name). And for who did it better: Aztec Camera’s Jump (Loaded version) v Van Halen. It leaves DL Roth cowering under a bed.

There version of Van Halen's "Jump" turns it from a party Anthem to a slow acoustic cry for help! Amazing how the same words can have a completely different story!

A wonderful protest song - still relevant although many of the events mentioned would need up dating ("ten long years and you've still got her", i.e., Thatcher; "your sons are leaving home Neil", i.e., Kinnock). The mix of Aztec Camera's (usually) softer sounds with the punch of Mick from the Clash is excellent. Aztec Camera's Roddy Frame is an excellent guitarist, often throwing flamenco touches into the band's songs (try "We Could Send Letters" or "Oblivious"). Sadly the teaming up with Mick Jones was a one-off.

You’re wearing a Clash T-shirt very appropriate 😊 Roddy Frame from Aztec Camera is an amazing song writer and performer.

Nice Protest song with some good guitar playing in it. Might have to check out some more songs from them including some below. I wonder if this song came out before Midnight oils first album!

Great tune! Local radio station (CITR - Spirit of Radio) would play this all the time back in the day along with The Beautiful South (We are Each Other) and local singer Art Bergman (If she Could Sing). Late 80’s early 90’s - music never sounded better on the radio. Correction - radio station was Coast 800 ( John Tanner, JB Shayne). CITR was the university station (UBC)

I suspect the other Aztec Camera song is “Somewhere in my Heart” as that’s the only other one I know. A similar song to this is Big Country with In a Big Country. I think a lot of Scottish bands are influenced by American Country music.

A knowing dig at the those in British establishment (based in the affluent south east of England) that seeks to denigrate and disparage the peoples of Scotland and Wales, along with the impoverished folk living in the north of England; and also the Irish for whom the Brits still wish to rule over.

Mick Jones (Chris, ex The Clash) and the mighty Roddy Frame, for me I preferred the band's earlier stuff, such as "Oblivious", "Walk Out to Winter", "All I Need is Everything", "Somewhere in My Heart", but this is still good.

Being old enough and... British enough, to remember the original "Good Morning Britain" TV show from the 80s, I did laugh at the beginning when I saw this video parodying their on-screen clock. Then it just became distracting.

Yep, it's a good song. More later period Clash sounding rather than Aztec Camera. Minor criticisms: not keen on the key change after the guitar solos and did anyone notice the acid house keyboard sequencer bobbling along (I think they were trying to be on trend!).
@togs07624 күн бұрын
Aztec Camera does The Clash. A great song, but hardly classic AC. Roddy is a fine writer and guitarist, sadly underrated. Hope to hear more from East Kilbrides finest.

If I've hear this before I don't remember it. It reminded me of The Proclaimers, without the charm. The only interesting thing about it was the guitar solo.
