1983 for me- it was the song I learned my first year in marching band, for our city's annual summer parade. I've forgotten pretty much everything about my time in high school, but I could remember how this song went almost note-for-note.

Played this last year in 8th grade and I had the trumpet solo, when the solo came I had to sight read it and messed up so the teacher just switched the music for something else and I went home and practiced the solo until I perfected it which took around a week and till now I wish I knew how to sight read it, it’s such a nice solo

I played 1st trumpet on this and did the duet, probably one of my favorite parts to play. Sadly I only got to play it once on the field and it was cold so I was flat 😭 My lips were tired as well so it was so bad.

One thing I definitely noticed compared to the concert band version is the trumpet has a little more of what the flutes/clarinets have, even during the solo part!
