The Grissom is going to be a nice model when finished. I like the base you designed and the reinforcement for the pylons. Great ideas! I'm actually now more excited about seeing the Jupiter 2 with the lighting kit. Wow, I don't know if I can wait until that build gets going!!! I think you should do the Jupiter before the shuttle kit. Maybe you should get votes from your viewers. :)

So happy to see someone else building this! I picked up the same kit and definitely noticed some of the same issues with the mold being a bit wonky. I managed to get the nacelles straightened out with a heat gun since mine were pretty crooked, but haven't figured out the pylons yet since they're both curved a bit differently. I love your stand idea, although I was also considering just scratchbuilding a new, hollow upper deck since it's a pretty simple design and it might lessen the weight enough that I'd be able to put it on a normal support...

Always a pleasure to watch you work whether you're into the kit or not. Btw, not sure if you're aware of it (or even care if you are) but video #1 of this playlist follows #2. ~Cheers and happy modelling sir.

I'd say Keith used a commercial SLS (selective laser sintering) machine for those white parts, usually nylon, hence the high quality of the finish. These are very expensive machines so probably done by a commercial supplier. Kudos to him for going the extra mile, it pays off... it also probably saves him headaches and wasted resin to get it right the first time. I'd say the grey pieces are from a standard SLA resin printer, which is appropriate and gives him flexibility for the smaller and more robust pieces. Wise choices, clearly a thinking man.

Seems like with adhesive the PVC would be strong enough to do what you needed? Holds paint okay as well. If you needed to add weight, fill the tubes with sand.

I have tiny Burns-O-Matic. It is hand sized, plenty of flame. The igniter is junk but a BBQ lighter works good. A little one would be less inclined to cook off random body hair. It would still float that pipe just fine thank you. I got it from the big orange home store for like 30 bucks with fuel.

Excellent stand for the Grissom - I use one, almost identical, for supporting R2-D2 when working on his legs. Very much looking forward to this build! I always liked the art deco style of this ship.

If the size of the box is any indication that Jupiter 2 is gonna be gigantic. And the pre-assembled light kit? Epic! Now all it needs are in-scale Space Pod and Chariot. ;>_ The Colonial Shuttle sure looks like a huge improvement in quality and an interior PLUS all the accessories AND the LandRam? I didn't see that coming. Oh, yeah- the Grissom is coming along nicely with an HOUR LONG video of kit you said you weren't going to work on. Ah well, you couldn't know the others would show up, so needs mus as they say.

Hey Lou! I have been building a lot of Star Wars 1/144 scale and more recently the Space Seed 1/1000 Enterprise. I use magnet wire which handles the power ok. It’s small and easy to hide. You could run it along seams, or make a very small seam with it.

The Largening-- a Netflix Original Series, coming this August! I think there might have been a T-fitting on the bottom rear so that a little stub could stick out to the rear. Greater stability. Not sure how comfy you are re-working a solder joint. And it might be fine as is. Very good looking whatever way you look at it. Digging out all those channels will be... interesting... Noice Galactica shuttle! Well made indeed.

@@aztekdummy I *just* put one together and wrote a stirring letter to you, boxed it all up and sending it tomorrow. Right now it's got 8, but I included resistors to change a double back into a single. I may take out the letter because, as I'd forgotten I'd sent you one before, my letter will sound mad.

It's kinda funny, I built the 1:1000 Grissom and thought it a shame that it's such a small scale that the top deck is only one part. Well, guess there's no scale where that isn't the case. Who knew?

Maybe some nice foam pipe lagging insulating tubes over the stand's upper support arms to save the paint on the underside of the Grissom (at least during the build)?

velcro fuzzy strips will go there eventually to protect the paint

I love the design of the Grissom. However, I always wondered how the crew got to the engineering section from the primary hull. The pylons look too thin for turbolifts, so do they just beam up and down?
@aztekdummy3 жыл бұрын
that's my guess. or ladders
@starsiegeplayer3 жыл бұрын
I think that lower hull is not populated. No windows. It might be full of equipment and sensors and fuel cells etc.
@norman75663 жыл бұрын
I think they look thin because we always are looking at the model or miniature of some sort. I think those pylons are thick enough for a smaller turbolift. I do think, however, this ship would not look too bad with a neck down the center to accomplish this too. Either way, this is my favorite ship from Star Trek. So streamlined and gorgeous and elegant, imho.

Hi Lou. You'll get a better result on your copper welds if you use Mapp gas instead of Propane. It comes in the yellow canisters and it burns hotter than Propane. I used to use it when I was an apprentice plumber and it made a difference, my friend. Peace.

Love this build so far. I find that I learn a lot from you when you do kits like this. The fact that these kits require a good amount of problem solving makes watching you overcome these very interesting. Looking forward to the Galactica build and especially the Jupiter 2 . I have the Jupiter 2 on my scedule and have collected a ton on aftermarket stuff. I find it surprising that you are not planning to use the Paragrafix stuff or the Fedoratron.com stuff. They are just amazing. Paragrafix sells this amazing paint masks buy a very talented modeler. ....forgot his name...perhaps you will know ..

Gonna be a beauty as usual! Have you considered replacing the flat deck section with a hollow scratch built structure? it seems fairly simple, and it would both eliminate a lot of weight and give you wiring room.
