Aztek Dummy Update 7/17/20 - 1000 scale Pike Enterprise Part 1

this week I finally get my hands on the new 1000 scale USS Enterprise from Round 2!
building and lighting and painting, Oh My!

Good fun to see your "basic" uhh, "bare bones" lighting. There are rectangular case style LEDs out there that would lay pretty flat to the inner hull-- where that registry lighting swath goes. OR it is possible to slice off a bit of either side of LED strip lighting-- maybe just enough to fit. Looking forward to your azteks! And I do love a lit up ship.

Looks great Lou. Even your "simple" lighting looks great. I like that version of the Enterprise and I agree it's a good looking kit. The paint masks made the rings around the hull pretty easy to do. Looking forward to part two.

Great video Lou - one of your best! Faster pacing, funny and full of useful tips. I was actually laughing out loud a couple of times (Round 2 don't care what I think and "I make the bloody things" 😁) I won't be making this kit as I avoid all things STD on principle (for many reasons) but it won't stop me enjoying your build. I like it. Nice! Your orange end caps look much nicer than the red ones that come with the lighting kit. With lower contrast between the greys it'd look more like the TOS version (without the aztecing).

Lou I'm with you when it comes to the Aztec decals I did the 1/2500th scale of the discovery,enterprise and shenzou and I agree it's to damn busy. I just got the 1/1000th scale discovery enterprise and I was going to get the decals for it to keep it cannon but after watching this I decided not to I think on these types of ships simple is better

You know, if you can pull of a proper masking kit that matches the aztec decals or even the shows original aztecing (the over-done stuff;)), I would pay proper money for it. I want to paint my ships myself, but I want them to look like in the show. I'm all ready for nine layer of super complicated and intricate masks, just as long as the result is right. What do you think, will there be something like that coming?

As far as the bridge window being too clear,try and get a screen shot of the bridge if you can,find the wright angle and perspective. Print it on clear acetate and set it behind the window

I have considered building an Enterprise model with a war theme where the Enterprise is not a ship of science but a battle ship with blasters everywhere and extra shields and crap like that. Different paint job for sure.

Lou Dalmaso you know in the movies and shows there are wars that are referred to. I know it’s not canon but a reality in galactic wars would be something like that super battleship in the new Star Trek 2. What would a war time USS enterprise look like? I would imagine it would be built to win battles and not what we get with the peace time Star ship that’s in the movies.

I'm sorely tempted to make one of these, but paint it in the straight TOS paint and markings. One thing though, could you possibly do a side-by-side comparison of this with the old 18" TOS Kit? They're calling this 1/1000, but I believe they pulled a fast one, because this looks the same size as the original AMT kit from the 60s, and the decks even seem to line up at first glance.

it is 1000 scale, its just a bigger ship than the TOS Enterprise. I'd say the windows are about 1/2 the size or smaller than on the old 18 AMT kit

Heya Lou! I knew that were going to Present this Kit Next! I’m Still Waiting For My Kit To Be Delivered by UPS & Royal Mail!? I Too am not going to use the Lighting System or the Decal Set. But I Will Be Aztec Detailing the Hell Out Of Her! I’m Old School So I’m Up to My Ears in Masking Tape! As for the Lighting I’m as Scared as Hell! I’ve Got to Design and Implement It! I try to Build My Kits in Build Order- But This Girl Might Light Jump the Cue! 18inches? It’s a Shame that She Wasn’t a Tad Larger? I’m sure what Scale She is to the Refit? I’ll Have To Research? It’s a Shame However that you’re using Metallics? You could have just gone with the Tamiya Range? If I want to have a Dull or Satin Effect I Would Go Down that Rout? Yeah I Know I can Keep my Dull and Satin Metallic Effect- and I’m not Telling You- A Master Modeller What To Do? I’m Just Curious? But as you Said it’s Your First Pass at this Kit? Your not using their wallpaper because your an AZTEK DUMMY!!! Hehe... i may scrape the money together to buy a set of your stencils. As a VA dependant Veteran, Im usually unable to buy any extras. I usually buy eBay kits that are overstocked or used. I like the look of this one alot. Love your work lou, keep it up. Great shirt... Your style of videos has never been copied and I prefer it. The build diary style is great. Round 2 is great at engineering. Its the ones they didn't engineer that are bad, like the cadet series they bought from AMT

I have the kit and can't wait to start building it. Yours is looking fantastic so far. But can you please show us how you adapt your lights to a wall plug? Is it just a 9 volt adapter stripped and soldered in instead of a battery? I'd like to use that method but don't want to either get shocked or pop a breaker. Lol. Thanks for another great vid!

it's simple. Take a 9v transformer, snip the end off of it. strip the wires. the black wire is negative and the white is positive I buy my leds preresisted to work from 9-12v. so I just join all of the positives together and all of the negatives together.

What colour did you use for the hull (the Light Ghost Grey equivalent)? I've gone back and forward a few times in the video, but can't find where you mentioned it (I have all the other colours). I purchased a copy of your mask set from Culttvmanshop. I am hoping that it isn't too daunting. The most complicated set I have done was your K'tinga masks, but this looks way more complicated.

Tamiya sky gray for the light color and jn gray for the darker color

By the way, speaking of Tamiya, Andy from Andy's Hobby Headquarters here on KZbin (if you're not familiar with him - he is a hobby store owner who also builds models on here, well he's a Tamiya dealer/stockist) warned us that Tamiya have said to expect a shortage of paints and other products due to world events etc. It may behove you to stock up because it could last a while. Although you have probably already heard, but I thought I would warn you anyway.

Unfortunately the design of the primary hull is so that any lighting meant to shine on the registry will miss it and only shine past and forward of the registry. The curvature just won't allow for such lighting. I could of course be wrong but test it out and see what happens. CGI on the show breaks those rules.
