Thanks for taking us along for the build. Great work as always Lou! Also, Round 2 should ALWAYS send you a test shot as soon as they have the instructions ready so you can proof them and raise their quality - it's a testament to your attention to detail.

Great update Lou. I just got these two kits myself and was interested in the update to the kit from the first kit. I was disappointed at first that it was different and we didn't get the Astronaut pilots but when I saw how much has been reworked in your video and from checking the kits out myself I am impressed with it. I have always loved this version of the Eagle after seeing it in the Metamorph episode and am very keen to get it on my model shelf soon.

Lou...the Eagle 1 spine was always like the Eagle 2, nothing has changed. I think you're thinking of last fall's 14" Eagle. The spine made me pull my hair out 4 years ago when I built 3 Eagle 1s. I shave my head now. The landing gear pads were originally one piece, but the plastic sunk on the bottom surface. Splitting the pads into two parts solved the problem.

Lou... the angle of the nozzles for the booster actually make sense... (surprising!). They push through the center of gravity of the Eagle... and so would not impart any rotation on the eagle... (similar to the main engine angle on the Space Shuttle). Or course, thanks to vector addition... the trajectory would be odd (direction of travel would no longer be aligned to the axis). Of course... they didn’t fly right on the show IIRC, the boosters somehow added velocity only on axis... but there ya go.

I often wonder at the type of personality that could get a sci-fi show made in the 1960-70s. Irwin Allen was famous for saying give me this or that, doesn't have to fit, doesn't have to make sense-- roll cameras! Your youthful brain wondering at the way-off-center-of-gravity "booster" (better called a "pinwheel") was not wrong. The idea of a Gerry Anderson craft not working as the laws of physics would suggest is no prob. If you recall, when any of the Thunderbird craft came in for a landing, they floated with no means of propulsion, until they needed to actually land. Then their landing rockets would fire, gently lowering them to the ground. But here we are, decades later, pondering and paying tribute to the Trims and Meddings who made the wonky concepts sing. Dalmaso Mysteries-- sounds like a perfect alternate YT channel! I very much applaud your use of magnets!

Hi Lou - I think the gap is because one or both of the interior posts inside the wedge shaped lab pod extension is not fully inserted into the hole - there is a certain orientation they need to be in so as to fully fit down flush into the hole, and if they aren’t then the roof and floor height will be a bit too much, causing the gap you noticed. Hope this is helpful
@aztekdummy4 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's it. The wedge shape is fitting the contours of the cabin roof and side walls perfectly and the floor of the wedge is fitting the sides of the wedge. if there is a gap at the bottom, there should be a raised bump at the top if I had not seated the wedge correctly

Just a Quick Note! If you look at any Space Shuttle, the Engine Bells are Flared Out in a Similar Configuration to the Eagle Booster Assembly? The Only Significant Difference is that the Space Shuttle’s Have Three Boosters and the Eagle Has Two. Also as an Observation the Eagles Booster Assemblies might be Slightly More Acute than the Shuttles But Not By Much? Also Look at the Russian Jupiter Rockets and the French Arianna’s? These Engine Bells from Rocket to Shuttle Also Pivot For Directional Thrust an Aesthetically Sound Theory Probably Applied to The Second Season Laboratory Eagle?

Heya! Martin Bower Built the Eagles- not one Eagle was the Same. So the Laboratory Eagle will Differ from the Cargo or Executive Pod Eagles. Maybe this has Followed through to the Production Models? The Construction will be Different? Best

The first two Eagles were built at Space Models of Feltham, England by a modelmaker named Wag Evans. Martin Bower wasn't hired as a freelancer until Alpha Child. The third Eagle was made by Derek Freeborn and Associates. Freeborn had a problem matching the Command Module to the first two.

I’m surprised you are not lighting the cockpit or is that part of the fun and games for next week? Also, I suppose that’s why it’s called “movie magic”, at 23:00, one of the “BOBO” frames all of a sudden appeared on the cutting board all the while the narration had continued with out a stop. LOL. I don’t suppose if one has dyslexia, that those frames could be called “OBOB”s instead. (I know, a very bad pun) Now, I hadn’t thought to look when you had the Eagle 1 out, as I noticed it at the end - there are no “BOBO” frames on that front module assembly. Is that the same on E1? I checked my original 1976 MPC model and those cages (while moulded in one piece) were on the front and rear modules. Is that a design flaw on the original 12” model or a major difference between E1 and E2? I’m only asking as I may have missed you pointing it out. Thanks again for building the models that I’ll never get a chance to.
@aztekdummy4 жыл бұрын
i just didn't put those cages on for the last shot because the paint was wet on them.

@@aztekdummy - that sounds like a good reason not to attach them. I was watching the video a bit later last night/this morning than normal as I was interested in the build. I thought I had missed a major part of the build when you ended up actually comparing E1 to E2. It is sort of like when/was one realizes you nodded off for a second while driving. Not quite the same consequences but I hope you know what I mean. So are you going to light the cockpit? I'm just asking as you had mentioned that there is an option to pull the front cockpit off to see the interior. That sounds like a strange option to have, is it that detailed? I'm just thinking of the many kits of large bombers (17s, Lancs, 52s, etc...) that have very detailed cockpits but you don't have the option of pulling off the front of the plane to view them.

At 50min part... When looking at those connector modules. Being silly. But how are those doors supposed to open to the side? And the inside set is easily larger than the outside! For the Boosters, they would just use blue-tooth to control it. :) Looks good. I want one!
@aztekdummy4 жыл бұрын
yeah, that's the tricky thing about those sci-fi doors that slide open. where does the pocket door go? Only the Enterprise got that right. my favorite is the Hangar control room on the Death Star. The one that slams down behind Luke as he takes off the stormtrooper helmet. I mean where was that door? was it in the wall on the floor above this one?

@@aztekdummy over all the lab module makes more sense, with air locks on the side. But there rocket motors on the bottom do not. 6 of them? Is it really that heavy? The passenger regular pod has 4, the air locks that heavy? Those are just the nozzles, the motors would be kinda large lol. All of the bottom rocket engines don't fit. Each section inside is it's own system. 6 doors. But how does the door fit inside the command pod? Questions we shouldn't ask ourselves. I still can't really to get that model. Its fictional, but if it's oozy, like say grease, the ooze would build up around the leak, and be less viscous or even frozen in place while in space or even on the moon's surface. But when it comes into the hangar, where it's warm, that ooze would warm and loosen, dripping down.
