Game 3 in the azul series and this is what i want from an Azul sequel. Same core idea, more depth and more scope. I really dig this one and think its one of the better game sequels i've played.

This is the one I have and it’s the one I really like because the challenge of the game is about maximizing the tiles and not as much about trying to avoid getting negative points

My favourite from the Azul series so far, I really like the first two, but there are more interesting choices in Summer Pavilion. Thanks for another great video.

I like Pavilion as much as the first Azul. They also feel fairly different to me, thanks to their opposite focuses; original Azul's strategy feels much more focused on avoiding negative points and forcing your opponents to take bad turns, while Pavilion feels more focused on trying to narrow down which of the several scoring systems you want to aim for. The four tile sockets in the corners, and the wild star in the middle, make awkward turns feel less punishing, gives you more of a cushion to land on, so my group ended up playing Pavilion a lot less aggressively than Azul. Sintra, the middle game, also feels like a mid-point between the other two in tone, too. Depending on where someone's pawn is above the windows, they'll either have a Pavilion-style cushion or a first-Azul-style punish, and that somehow feels both more dynamic but also less... consistent, I guess? It's a bumpier experience, and that's resulted in some of my group really liking it and others decidedly disliking Sintra. I should note I've played three games of Azul, two games of Sintra, and three games of Pavilion.

My favourite Azul. I really enjoy the combo aspect. Also unlike the original, alternative board is actually interesting 🤨 I play regularly on both sides

Great review Jarrod! Personally, I find playing abstract strategy games to be a dull experience. Just never leaves me feeling satisfied. I played this game once and can't remember anything about it.

Azul: Summer Pavilion being the least accessible one? I believe it's the other way around. While the first one can very punishing when it comes to negative points (and to consequences of mistakes in general), this one seems to give most room for error. You're rarely forced to take something you don't want and even if you do, you can fairly easily make it work with your current strategy. As I see it, this evens out any advantage the original one may have due to its simpler ruleset. Not that it makes a big difference, as both of them are fantastic gateway games. If there's something that even my parents want to play, then it indeed must be good :)

Fair point, but i think the scoring and overall path to victory is more obtuse in this one

I have played this one in a BGC. I agree on the Wild system being a great touch. I still prefer original Azul but I much prefer the fixed game length of this one - find the “game length depends on when you finish a row” to be the only part of original Azul that really bothers me.

Kind of an unrelated question, but when is this season of 3 Minute Board Games over? I really like your videos but every video I watch I have to mute the first 10 seconds of the video, the intro song is such an ear-worm that I've gotten headaches from having it stuck in my head. Anyways keep up the great content.
