17:15 I don't think Azula hates her mom I think she has by now realized her father will never actually love her, and her desparation for being loved is why she brings Zuko back, their mom is gone but Zuko was the mother's favourite (in her eyes, really it was just that Zuko spent more time with Ursa because Ozai favored Azula), so she is obsesed with Zuko as an extension of her mother. Of course she has no idea how to actually build a productive sibling relationship with Zuko.
@J_mped9 ай бұрын
they never said she hates her mom they said she resented her, which is true. she resented her mum for loving zuko more than her which is also why she always picked on zuko. and azula never went and brought zuko back on her own accord it was the firelord that ordered her to do that at the end of season 1
@DevlinBlake9 ай бұрын
I think she actually cares for zuko a little. But she doesn't really know how to care. Remember that part of the last episode where she warned zuko against visiting Iroh? She could have turned him in. She could have said nothing. She could have done a whole bunch of things that she didn't actually do. That shows me she cares a tiny bit. Because really she had no reason to warn him otherwise.
@johjoh92707 ай бұрын
@@DevlinBlake Also, the little smile when Zuko was talking about how everything should be perfect now that he got all he ever wanted, I don't think that was the usual scheming, arrogant smile she usually has, but a legit caring one for Zuko, likewise, she seemed she was indeed about to cry when she started talking about how her mom viewed her as a monster, then snapped out of it as a defense method with the funny line like "yeah this happened, but I don't care (she cares)"

I think combustion bending might be my favorite sub-form of bending. I would highly recommend reading the Yangchen books which explain more about it. - spoilers for the yangchen books - I love combustion bending because it seems so unique to the other sub-forms, like theoretically any firebender could train to become one but because it's the most powerful form of bending, and the most unstable, most don't survive the training, which is why it's so rare. Also I liked the detail that because it takes so much energy to create the explosions, the bender has to consume massive amounts of food to generate it. Combustion Man is obviously more advanced than the original combustion benders in The Dawn of Yangchen, where Thapa had to take like 30 breaths to build up to one explosion, while Combustion Man only takes one, and P'lee can even curve her shots, but I suppose bendings of all types can advance a lot in a couple hundred years. The books are also my favorite avatar content because F. C. Yee isn't afraid to go to some really dark places with things, and give you the full reality of what it's actually like.

Actually Azula have Mother and Father Issues in the comics Azula say that she was a monster because her father never gave her any choice because Ozai wanted to make her a War machine because she was a firebending prodigy
@2koldwilson7 ай бұрын
@mollyduroy6265 Which makes sense due to his twisted perception. Ozai stated that she had even more talent and potential than even himself. Which is amazing considering he was stated to be the best firebender in the entire verse, period. Sadly, that is what lead to a huge part of her mental instability and inability to make proper connections with anyone else. She was raised through fear, and taught that fear was both a weapon and how to control others while never truly being able to experience true love and acceptance. Which is what lead her to falling short as a person and not being able to reach her full potential as a fire bender. This is also shown in full in her fight with Zuko at the end. She was never able to accept herself or even acknowledge her issues. As we know, the power of one's bending comes from their innate talent and their ability to connect with and control your emotions. This can be manifested in many ways and depends on the person. Azula was lost the entire time and remained as such.

Notice how Mai explains her parents. Ok, now who else are rich, not loving, controlling, etc.? Tophs Parents. So Mai is basically Toph if she hadn't taken control of her life. I also really like her contrasting temperament to Zuko (she's had a crush on him since they were kids, if you recall that flashback from Zuko Alone) and how she's the opposite of what you'd expect someone from the hot-blooded Fire Nation to be. She's also very cold and sarcastic, which I find hilarious. And she doesn't sugarcoat her words and is very honest which is something i love. She's a very underrated character and is very overhated in the fandom. Zuko's the right vs wrong choice here might seem easy to us as viewers. But Zuko was raised from birth, in a time of war, to be loyal to his country and the Fire Lord (remember that oath those schoolchildren had to recite in Episode 2). But his country is hurting others, which his mother taught him is wrong. The conflict within him here is very nuanced and I love it. He's at war within himself. Azulas flirting is hilarious and sad at the same time. Like she's been forged to be a weapon and just can't socialize like normal people do. The thing that gets me about Azulas "My own mother thought I was a monster" is that its not true. We don't get to see a lot of the mom and what we do get to see is that she's a mom that doesn't know what to do with her manipulative and smart daughter. Especially when it's her husband is the one who encourages all of Azulas worst traits. But Azula being the perfectionist that she is, sees any form of correction as an existential threat. So when her mom corrects her (as good parents do), she just doesn't have the emotional maturity to see that as love. 12:04 i mean meesh, they dont explain it in the show so its not really a spoiler if u tell her its a subset of firebending 😅😅. Like Dee's little "u wont tell me" sounded so disappointing 🥺🥺. Next ep is one of my Favorites. Cant wait to see ur reaction to it 😁😌. Great reaction. Hope u have a wonderful day 💕💕.

I love Mai! She's definitely an underrated character, but I love how relatable and 'ride-or-die' she is. 😩 I agree with you about Zuko and Azula. Both their characters are very nuanced, and that's what makes these characters great, even if we know they're making the wrong decisions. You are absolutely right, but sometimes it's hard to remember what I can spoil, so I just choose not to say anything. 😂 Have a wonderful day Mohammad! -M❤️

This episode is unironically one of my favourites, it really shows everyone in team Azula's problems, and particularly Azula, something that goes missing is, alright first apology to Ty Lee when she says she's a tease might look like just her wanting Ty Lee to give her advice, but I think she really did feel bad for Ty Lee, cause, later on the Episode, already at the campfire, when Zuko calls Ty Lee circus freak at 18:50 and Azula laughs, Ty Lee is genuinely hurt by that, so once she starts talking Azula looks at her and her face isn't mocking or evil at all, she really seems to feel bad for her, immediatly as Ty Lee looks back at her, she looks away and pretends she doesn't care, then once Ty Lee looks at Zuko again, you can see Azula looking at Ty Lee with her left eye, so I think she really does carea bout her, but she is afraid of showing what she considerse weakness so she puts up a defensive wall around her every time she interacts with someone, she is also the one trying to talk to Mai about her own issues, diving straight pretty accurately to the root of Mai's personality Later on, while Zuko is doing his monologue about how perfect his life should be now that he achieved what he wanted, she can be seen smiling on the background, now, I don't think that looks even remotely like her usual scheming, arrogant smile, but instead, I think this one is genuinely feeling it for her brother, hell, she was the one that made Zuko a hero by telling Ozai HE killled the avatar, on the first place, which is what made Zuko a hero in Ozai's eyes, and as much as she says that would make Zuko be the one to blame if Aang was still alive, remember, she said it like she was there and confirmed it, if the Avatar was still alive, she'd take the blame along Zuko for not making sure he was dead, at best she would be WORSE than Zuko because Zuko had a shot and she didn't (from Ozai's PoV), so I think she really was trying to bring him back home when she did that. Plus if she wanted to get rid of Zuko she'd have done so or pushed to do so the moment she caught Zuko visiting Iroh, instead she gave him a warning keeping it a secret to not only the rest of the Fire Nation, but also Ozai himself. She is also the one pressing Zuko to let out what he feels, giving him quite some needed relief, then she snaps back to "you're pathetic" once he has done that, once more showing she cares but is afraid to look weak in front of everyone or to her own resolve Think this is perfectly summed with her "she was right of course but it still hurt" line, as funny as this was, it shows Azula's memories (either correct or not) on her mother's perception of her really marked and hurt her, in her head "abandoning" her to take care of Zuko instead, she seems about to let that out when she said her own mother thought she was a monster, then when she felt emotional about it she had to rebuild that armor around her and play it off as a joke with the "she was right..." Additionally, while perhaps an oversight or avoided cause thought of as annoying, there is no Azula Chime / Azula Music in the entire campfire interaction As for why would she think feeling emotions is weakness... remember, Azula at this point is 14, and everything she knows and lived for is war, she is a literal child soldier, she is TERRIFIED of being or appearing vulnerable, and unlike Zuko, who got exiled and had his uncle to try to correct him, she has been directly under Ozai's command for all these years, being favoured by him for being a prodigy from birth, being told that emotions = weakness from her childhood and reaffirmed when Zuko got banished because of those very emotions, this is important because one of her lines towards the end of the series when she fears losing Ozai's favour is: "you can't treat me like Zuko"

Hey Meesh and Dee. I hope you two day have been good. "Happy Wednesday." This was a great episode to see how Zuko, Azula, Mai and Ty Lee trying to be normal. Zuko and Mai part in the episode was hilarious especially how Zuko got jealous when he thought Mai was interested in that guy. I felt bad for Ty Lee once you get her backstory. I feel bad for Zuko because he has everything that he ever wanted. His father's approval, but in the end, he's still sad because it is not what he expected, which leaves him confused. I feel sad for him because he's a broken and damaged individual. Azula trying to flirt was hilarious but sad because you could see how her father affected her to the point that she can't have a normal conversation without thinking of battle as well her not recognizing the game earlier as something to have fun. Instead, she looked at it like it's a battle. But for the first time, you can see at the place where they made a fire that her mother loving Zuko more than her has affected her. Even tho she tried to play it off. Letting you see a glimpse into some of her flaws. But anyway I hope you two have a wonderful day. Stay safe, take care and stay amazing.

It's kind of strange to think about. But, when Toph says Aang shouldn't expose himself I see it as a joke to the parents of kids watching the show. Toph "sees" everything kinda like a MRI machine in a hospital. So, does she have to concentrate to see them with clothing on? Vibrations of a body vs clothing probably means she sees the body more than clothing. I always thought her reference to expose was a way the writers were saying Toph sees everyone without clothing. Yes, I know these are teenagers and I'm not making it weird or sexual. But, I think that's what they were alluding to here. A quick search revealed that Toph probably does see everyone without clothing but just doesn't let them know. But, wouldn't her student Aang know? The assassin is able to compress his fire bending to a point and send it out. It therefore becomes a beam that explodes when it hits something due to rapid expansion from a pinpoint area of whatever was hit. So, all the damage you see from a normal fire blast is compressed into a very small area. It's kinda like how a knife works. All the force you exert with your hands and arm when cutting something with a knife is distributed along the very narrow blade, and cutting happens.
