I recently moved to another country where it is better to live - sunshine, the sea, healthier, stress free lifestyle. Now I work 3 months of the year. I have more time to myself. I have lived like this throughout my 30s, 40s and 50s. It's a lovely work/life balance - the emphasis being on "life". I have done many different kinds of work and have many skills. Sometimes in the west we can be sold a lie and think we have to follow a particular way, which can be stressful. In my 20s I witnessed a lady from my work retire at 65. We had a small party for her. One week later she passed away. Matthew 6:25-34

Great video Azul. One suggestion I have is that, when you have a list of items to discuss, it would be so helpful to list these and possibly even show time links to where each of the item discussions begin. I've noticed that some KZbinrs do this, and it helps people learn and remember more quickly. Thanks again!

Hey Azul, have you read a book called The Wealthy Barber? There was a Canadian infomercial guy back in the early 1990’s promoting his book. The financial advice in the book changed my life.. I was lucky to find it while I was in my 20’s and it was the first place I learned about saving 15% and the power of compound interest. I reached out to the author a few years back on Facebook and he was kind enough to respond. A good guy.. like yourself!

Honestly, life in the USA has been steadily getting more difficult for working class people for more than 40 years. Political corruption and incompetence, and shameless corporate greed have largely ruined this country, so it's definitely not the 'shining city on a hill' that a wealthy country like this should be. Americans need to stop blindly believing we're the best at everything and start acknowledging all the things that are wrong with our country. Only then can we fix them.

I've read a dozen or so over the years myself, Azul. The theme's in these books are repetetive for sure. I never found money management to be a rocket science or particuarly difficult to invest over the years. Money is certainly fungible and I used it to buy other assets and strived to stay ahead of costs. As a retired engineer, I'm particuarly good with numbers and that helped for sure. I found living within our means and controlling expenses the most important decisions we made over the years. We lived a rationed life over the years, avoiding the temptations of big toys and such. I think the emotional discipline of money decisions is the number one theme most money gurus pound in these books I read and I found that to be true true true for us. Thanks again.

This is why they say simply buy the S&P 500 (Warren Buffett) or Buy a bucket of everything(Stocks and Bonds) and live with the average growth (Jack Bogle). Simply don't try to pick and choose or time opportunities, because that is constant competition and even if you win 500 times in a row you can lose it all on the next change. Simply let 30 or 40 years of growth in current and past investments do the job.

A systemic failure in this country comes from the fact that poor people with little money can’t teach their children how to invest. They don’t know how! Schools don’t teach it unless you go to college and take business courses. The average person is left to learn investing on their own or to seek out professional advice. The trouble with this is two fold. Learning to invest can be daunting. The fear of loss is real for beginners and the professional investment industry is predatory. Their going to make money weather you do or not. We need to teach money management in grade school and high school.

Unfortunately the average 60 year old does not have 1000 weeks of healthy retirement. The average male life expectancy in 76 . Deduct 6-7 years for healthy life expectancy. That makes 10 years to really enjoy retirement. 600 weeks . Then medical expenses outside of Medicare will pixelate any savings you’ve accumulated.

Got another one for you Azul Learn to cut your losses when it's obvious (or you have indications) you've made a bad investment. Keep your loses small, you will eventually hit the big winner, but you need to have not lost all you capital first. On the flip side, learn how to not be too greedy and take your profits. No one has ever lost taking a profit

I hate the "river guide" analogy. A true river guide is on the river with you and will experience everything you experience, including getting dumped in the water with you and missing meals because your food was swept away. If a financial advisor gives you bad advise and 20 years into retirement you find yourself in trouble, you suffer on your own. In other words, an advisor has no skin in the game.

All cash return was disappointing for about 3 years just luck the return on it has improved , in my case could of panicked and bought property during the zero interest rate time but weighing things up IE the worry about bad tenants and my age all cash suits me especially now. I have idle $100k in the compulsory super fund seems same as the 401k scheme in America. In the 80,s I was paying 19% interest to buy my first property, in 2013 I lost on paper half a million in 12 months by selling my ramshackle joint for a disgusting house and land package further out.

Thank you for putting out great content, Azul. I am finding a lot of value in your channel. I have taken in the message you have repeated to seek out a fee-only financial advisor. Are there situations where a managed account (with higher fees/expense ratio) with a retained advisor makes sense for an investor? Multiple account types, compressed time frame, sideways market . . .
