You have some fantastic content on your channel. At 53 years old, my wife and I achieved a net worth of $1 million back in 2017. Fast forward five years, and it has grown to $2.4 million. Despite our combined annual salary of just over $100,000, we have adopted a frugal lifestyle. We continue to drive older cars, prepare meals at home, and make use of leftovers. Additionally, we have two children currently in college. Fortunately, we had saved for their college expenses, and they are contributing by working part-time. As a result, they will graduate without any student debt.

That right, I started investing sometime in 2018 and by late 2021, I pulled out a profit of over $750,000 with no prior investing knowledge or skill, I was basically just following the guidelines set by my financial advisor, so you don't necessarily need to be a perfect investor or do the hard works, just have a professional who guides & mentors you.

More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.

The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.

This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000

I just 30 this year and have just under $40k in my own 401k and another $10k between my other retirement accounts. My wife has about $41k in her retirement accounts (she is not currently working). I currently make close to $63k a year. I only do 5% though to my 401k for the company match and another 10% of my income is split between an HSA and a ROTH IRA

51 years old. I have $295,588.25 in my Fidelity retirement account. I cranked my contributions up to 35% and I do all the investing on my own. Fidelity just holds my ETFs/stocks. I made that change earlier this year. I'm hoping to end the rat race by 60 but it's looking more like 63-ish. I want to have $1.5M and bring in about $60k in dividends each year. Pedal to the floor! The retirement crisis is going to get worse, in my opinion. Many people are unable to save due to high rental costs, inflation, and low-paying occupations. They also won't have a house to retire to because middle class Americans can no longer afford to buy a home.

The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. This is my fifth year after retirement. I’e been following the 4% rule thing I saw on a youTube channel, but this isn’t really how hard I expected things to be. After I cashed out a lump sum, I still have about $760k left, but at this rate, and with how the market is (we were putting money away in an index fund), I’m starting to get really worried.

It’s amazing you were able to save that much during your active years. Not a lot of people are able to save that much in a lifetime. But now you are retired and depend on your investment, it’s best you redistribute your capital, so you are not left devastated during a market crash or recovery. To simplify the process, you could allocate your resources with the help of a financial advisor.

Yeah, I’m also closing in on retirement, and I have benefitted much from using a financial advisor. I retired at 66. Shortly after retiring my former employer asked if I could help out by returning to work, full time, for “a couple of weeks”. The project was related to my previous employment, but a new, and very interesting project. Well, the couple of weeks turned out to be more than “a couple of years”. I finally did retire at age 71! Loved every minute of my “second career” - so grateful I was given the opportunity to continue working on an interesting project with great coworkers.

You have some great advice. I'll be 55 (my wife will be 53) in June 2024 and am thinking about retirement. House is paid off, and both of us have healthy 401k accounts. One of the things you said in this video that hit home was you'll be happier and enjoy retirement if you retire earlier while you are still active and healthy. Sticking around on the job to add funds to retirement may not work out if you aren't healthy/active enough to enjoy the extra "fun" staying on the job too long buys you. I also like, "one house, one spouse". This describes me and my wife 100%

My thesis is this: If you really enjoyed your childhood playing and studying ( with no money at all apart from a few bucks pocket money ) and like me, you really enjoyed your student life ( with no money ) . That’s 22 years with next to nothing with a few clothes and food with great friends, then you shouldn’t fear retirement ( if you have no debts). You don’t need more of anything ; apart from the essentials.

Actually, you can blame the Fed for manipulating the market by keeping interest rates artificially low for the last decade. They created this mess and now there's no way to fix it without completely crashing the market. And I'm OK with that.
@MargaretMargaretKarjala
@MargaretMargaretKarjala Жыл бұрын
You can also blame the Fed but most of it goes to those investors that have made life difficult for the 61% of people that are living paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford to buy a home because of these investors that gobble up the properties and jacking up the rent and buying price for a home. That’s BS.
@KatyMccullars

He's mainly talking about CA real estate in the Bay Area for this video. Many real estate investors in other parts of CA, and even other states, are still doing well. In CA, I'm sure the lack of supply to meet demand, rising construction costs, extremely long process to approve housing projects, and high property taxes are just a few things causing high housing prices in the state. It's bias to just use real estate investors as the scapegoat to "a major reason why the real estate market is the way that it is now".

One of your most important points: money is a tool. I also forget this sometimes. Money, in and of itself, is not the goal. It's the potential in what you can do with it. People get caught up in the accumulation but don't have concrete idea what they're going to use it for, or worse yet don't use it to enjoy life or make life easier.

Great channel! A family friend retired at 70 years old and he had a financial adviser. Most financial advisers who make 2% off the portfolio would want their clients to work longer. Some people that I know who worked past 65 years old even if they have at least $2M in their portfolios just cant’t stop working because they enjoy seeing their money grow. So keeping greed in check is part of the decision of when to retire is the challenge for high income earners.

2.5 years ago I was forced out of my job due to layoffs at age 56. I decided I was not going to look for another job and essentially retire. My wife is still working and has provided us with income and health insurance since then. She is now 57 and is retiring 12/31/23. We have been working with a financial planner for the last approx 10 years or so and have been assured we have a 98% success rate of outliving our retirement funds. We are so excited to be able to do things we've wanted to do for years. That is a great feeling and I highly recommend working with a financial planner.

Very helpful..you are doing a great service providing this quality content….you raise a lot of points to think about…..Personally, I am nearly 65 …house is paid -but i hope to live there until I die & have no other debt…saved few Million in retirement investment accounts and another 500k in non retirement investments…yet, I don’t feel comfortable -not even close…i often stress over the finances and am regretful that I didn’t manage to save more….we are reasonably frugal-but I don’t feel it is nearly enough to retire and without financial worry …..btw, I read the book die with zero (and hated it) ….despite his arguments to the contrary, I think his approach is selfish….

Thank you for all your videos! You have taught me a lot over the past year. I am almost 62 and I am retiring at that time. I am cool with a Monte Carlo simulation that tells me I have an 80% chance of success over the next 20 years (after 62). Pareto Principle. People need to also consider the possibility that there could be a paradigm shift within 20 years of their retirement in terms of the stock/bond market. Thank you for all your videos!

I watch your show to get tips on how to think about retirement and how to change my habits. Just this year I sold my 6500 sq ft house and am moving to a 3400 sq ft house. I am finally thinking of retirement as freedom and potentially the best years of my life. I hope you reach 100k subscriptions by June of this year or earlier. @Azul Yes, we would like to see a video on your top 5 books! Unfortunately, I encountered a divorce which altered my retirement plans. I figure that I can retire about 5-years after I die. Anyway, I reach full-retirement age (67-1/2) in April 2024. I only have $125k in retirement and have been thinking about to either putting off retirement until 70 or drawing Social Security at FRA and continue to work. What do you think? Subscribed and liked your video.

Well, I'd say you've convinced me. I was planning on working till 65. I got started late due to working in a family business (lots of good memories, not so much money) so for me that was like a normal person being able to retire at 55. But now my plans are to retire sometime next spring or early summer at 63. Winters are nasty here so no reason to retire any sooner.

I can’t focus on the long run when I should be retiring in 3years, you see I’ve got good companies in my portfolio and a good amount invested, but my profit has been stalling, does it mean this recession/unstable market doesn’t provide any calculated risk opportunities to make profit?

Thanks Azul. Great retirement related content and my wife and I have enjoyed your sage advice. One thing however, we've not seen from you (maybe you do have a vid we havent' found yet?) Is on the topic of Health Care and Part time work if you DO want to retire early. We feel like we need to keep our jobs eventhough we probably have enough to retire. BUT we would want the safety net of Health Benefit coverage to cover the gap until we are 65 and eligible for Medicare. ie: Do we quit and keep Cobra safety net for 18mos, go with Private Ins, or ACA? This issue keeps many (including ourselves) to fear getting hit with a problem and no Health Care coverage. A serious unexpected health issue could wipe out your retirement plans - which is a real concern eventhough we are in good health now. Pls comment when you can. Thx -T

Given my situation-having funded my daughters’ education debt-free, paid off my mortgage, and with a six-figure income and significant investments primarily in an IRA-how should I gauge the amount needed to retire comfortably at 62? While everyone’s circumstances vary, I’d appreciate any insight on what a solid retirement fund might look like, especially since you mentioned that many retirees have a net worth of $250k. Would having a larger savings base make early retirement feasible in my case?
