I love how this series maybe unintentionally has really really good neurodivergent representation. The way you described Osaka basically hit all of the cornerstones for an autism diagnosis as well as attention deficit disorder. Tomo’s entire personality aligns with ADHD and sakaki’s personality quirks, hyperfixations and social difficulties are enough to suggest that she may be on the autism spectrum too. Usually characters exhibiting these qualities are shunned or made into the butt of jokes in other movies and TV series but in azumanga daioh they are treated with respect and included in the group just as much if not more so than the “normal” characters. As someone with autism, ADD and ADHD this show really made me feel seen and accepted.

I watched Azumanga for the first time in 2007 when i was in 7th grade and i still recommend it to everyone. Its just so lovely and im so happy to see the charm truly doesnt wear off😊 what a great video

I remember how I found out Azumanga Daioh. KZbin recommendations gave me the “Oh my Gah!” meme. From there I found out the name of the anime and started watching. I wanted to watch 1 episode per evening after a hard day, but by episode 16 I couldn’t resist and watched the remaining 10 episodes in one night. And I had a good time.

Always a delight to watch with younger family members. Even with the funny moments there are times when jokes are so funny yet don't go too hard that they can easily go over their heads without too much to worry about. Plus they always love cute animals like Cats and Dogs.

Great video I'm surprised it has so little views. The editing is amazing and helps the pace of the video, I liked the use of the OST and random clips. Can I suggest doing a review on an obscure anime called Desert Punk? the dub is great and the English part of the internet doesn't talk about it at all.

The first few episodes i cant really get in to and wanted to ditch the anime, but after a while it was so fun to watch and enjoyable, watched the series 2 times in a row...one of thr best series i ever watched and could watch all time. I never thought i enjoy an anime about high school girls.

I was always into Azumanga comedy and clips and stuff but just recently watched, and God Damn was it good.. instantly one of the best (if not the best) Slice of Life anime I've ever watched, their story was so endearing and I even cried during their graduation. With that "sadness that is over but glad that it happened" type of feeling. That's how good this anime is.

OH MY GOD THE INTRO ALREADY KILLED ME BAHAHA I HAVEN'T EVEN WATCHED THE ACTUAL VID ESSAY YET but I have faith one of my favorite anime of all time is in good hands call it a gut feeling lmfao I saw this show for the first time when I was around 4 or 5 because my family was also weeb trash like me (it is precisely BECAUSE they are weeb trash that I turned out to be as well funny how that all works out sometimes) and owned the series boxset ahaha and it's always stayed close to my heart through the years for its sense of safe childish whimsy and innocence (except Kimura I have no idea why the fuck he had to be there at all to be honest with you, taints an otherwise perfect show for me lol) so I've been loving stumbling across these dissections of it here on KZbin lately. That story at the end really resonates with me, I watched azumanga 2 weeks ago during a similarly depressing episode of my university life, socialisation slowing down, going whole days without going outside and not showering. Then I discovered azumanga daioh as a youtube playlist similarly to you. If my mood was a graph it would be skyrocketing right now due to this show, I actually try to ENJOY my daily life and live more in the present due to the simple message of the show. Not to mention when I checked it out on tvtropes yesterday something shocked me and brought me to tears because I've always needed to hear it, the simple tagline of the show "you belong." Means so much to me because despite the good friends I have I always felt like I was not entirely there. Just reading that tagline stunned me for a full minute then brought me to tears. Thank you for this excellent review.

this video hits home how good the characters really are in this show. i’ve been obsessed with them for months and you still managed to point out relationships that i never considered. you didn’t even talk about the teacher yuri of nyukari or the rival yuri of toyomi. but you did talk about the deep friendship of osaka and chiyo and other things i just never considered. thank you for this masterpiece of a video

I agree that anime doesn't need to have a complex plot and slice of life is just as valid as any other genre, but I think the main criticisms come from the fact it follows high school girls... Like almost exclusively. And plenty of these anime, including Azumanga, get questionable at times. I definitely think that's the main reason why most people, especially adults, feel put off by it.

Azumanga daioh also helped me with a depressive episode. In late March to mid-April this year, I got in an incident that eventually led to me banned from a discord server I was on and considered a secondary family. I do admit I didn't handle the situation well, but I don't think I deserve to be banned, and none of the mods let me contact them, so I was in a very upset mood then. A few days after the ban, I started watching the show and fell in love and I think it help me deal with my feelings better. Sadly I finish the series by May and it would become a miserable month for me but I have since gotten better.

Dude, for the love of god, compress your audio!. You can have the sharp tonal contrasts and distortion for whatever stylistic impact you want without traumatising your viewers (especially the nocturnal ones) with horrific panic inducing volume peaks every time you swallow the mic. Honestly, I am less than half way through and very close to abandoning this otherwise fantastic video because I'm dreading the possibility of yet another scramble for the volume slider that comes with every sentence. I am watching this in the early hours on a laptop in a room with thin walls where I need to be considerate of my neighbors and I'm so glad that I did not happen to be using headphones because the physical stress your audio has caused is bad enough as it is without having actually ruptured my eardrums which it would have had I been wearing them. Like I say... if done well, you can keep all of the qualities of the mic swallowing trope without having massive level changes with compression and it is easy enough to learn. It doesn't take long to master an audio file for video and with a little bit of experience it can all be done in the recording stage so there's no additional work to do in the edit... Good luck with your audio engineering journey.

Just cutting the audio clip and better adjusting the volume in his video editor would do wonders. That said, the voice recording probably could use compression or normalization. Normalization would probably be easier.
