Auto Resolve IR is basically managed vm's by azure which are in control of azure, so when its trying to pull data from an on premise vm, there on premise vm will have its on firewall rules in place and it will not allow the public IP of the azure resouce to by pass the connection. Hence self hosted IR is installed on the on premise vm and the IP of the azure resource is then registered in the self hosted IR to allow connection. I believe this is what i have understood of what i read. Do i make sense?

Yep it does make sense and you can use auto resolve IR in case source DB allow public IPs and has no firewall in place.
@soumikmishra72882 ай бұрын
@avnishdevshali hmm correct. But rarely an onprem database server will have open firewall. Unless the database hosts publicly available data, just like adventureworks sample db

When he said azure sql database why interviewer asked back if it is on prim or cloud? Azure sql database is cloud based db managed at Microsoft data centers
@bharathkumars87484 ай бұрын
That's because the candidate said he was pulling data from on Prem and said it's azure SQL db, as azure SQL db is not on Prem it's a cloud database. That's y he interrupted
