Is there some different between load (with Synapse, Data Factory or Databricks) a normal Azure SQL Database that after is consumed by Power Bi in comparison with loading a PBI Data Mart? I am referring mainly to efficiency, maybe good practices, costs, etc.

Has Azure Synapse Analytics and other tools like BigQuery replaced the need for traditional OLAP cubes if you are working with Power Bi or any other BI tool?

It depends on the requirements. But there are many scenarios where you can replace OLAP cubes with a combination of Power BI and Big Data/Data Warehousing platform like Azure Synapse. Typically, it's Power BI, where you do business modeling similar to what you achieve with OLAP cubes (typical dimensional modeling).

@@AzureSynapse thanks but have cubes become a bit redundant in the sense that we can get the information just as fast from solutions such as Azure Synapse or BigQuery. The multi dimensional side of cubes becomes pointless with a good star or snowflake structure and OLAP data warehouse.

This is awesome stuff, but the reverse should also be available. what about leveraging citizen BI efforts and bringing the datasets back into centralized analytics in synapse? SQL link for powerbi Datamarts anyone?... it is sql 2022 after all, but seems everything is served via Views and the schemas are locked down in Datamarts

@@pawelpotasinski9092 so we can save power bi report data in SQL and access that from adf or synapse analytics? .. we have a this requirement to consume measures data from power bi report. Please advise if any
