Thanks for all your time and knowledge Dean. Can't thank you enough for putting this content out for us. You're one of the first to cover AZ-140, so this is going to help all of us get that badge. :-)

Thanks Shawn, I appreciate that! Yes the idea of the AZ-140 series is 2 things. 1. Help people who don't know WVD at all and want to learn 2. Help People who know WVD understand everything on the test so you can study and pass. Please share the series on social media and with others 😉

The exam just went 'live' today. I mean, I literally brought up the page and kept hitting refresh until the option to sign up was available. And I just subscribed to your channel after about a minute of watching. I 'love' the fact that you're using a real scenario to cover the exam objectives and topics. It's so hard to 'read' about it, then try to 'do' it (for me at least). Hands on, along with having my hand 'held' while doing it, I feel, is the best, and fastest way to learn. Looking forward to these videos as well as your others.

Hi Dean, I have been following your channel for quite a while now. I wanted to thank you for all the effort you have put in. I think we cannot thank you enough for all the knowledge you share and how easy you have made it all look. I cannot wait for the new videos to roll out to solve this scenario. Once again thank you so much! 🙌

@6:06 I can see that JApan and UK have VNETs that are not privat. When trying this in the portal It suggests to use private ones. Could it be a type? -> UK: 10.2.0.0/21, Japan: 10.3.0.0/21?
@AzureAcademy2 жыл бұрын
All vnets have outbound access to the internet by default but no inbound access. So in Azure are private unless you attach a public IP Address to a VM in that network, which makes it public. The specific IP Address range does NOT need to be RFC1918

Thanks for this I have now set this up however can't see where to pull a list of all users that have logged in with X days.
@AzureAcademy3 жыл бұрын
At the top of the page you set the date and time frame then you can see the users who have logged in. But there is not a native feature that shows the number of days it has been since Sally last logged in. Tell me why this feature is valuable so I can try to get it added

Hi Dean, I've completed the series and it has been truly excellent. I (personally) would benefit having a video created about what a home-labber would need (starting from zero) to perform the configuration videos (I'm now at this point). I intend to mirror your desktop scenario with a single hub network but 1 spoke to minimise cost, and I'll practice building the 3 types of host pools within the single spoke. I also needa single AD instance running on a VM in azure for authentication (which you previously recommended for someone like me doing this at home). I've a few questions if you have time to help: 1/ Presumably I need a trial Office 365 license (against the same user account I use to configure all of this in azure) so I can use WVD and create a user in said AD instance that has the same email address as my azure subscription/office license so I can actually log onto a WVD once they're built? 2/ You had recommended I setup a Win server VM with AD DS to provide my domain services and avoid AADDS . I do understand why it's best to avoid AADDS, but If I want to create a AD instance in the cloud, can I use a Windows server image from the azure gallery ? Presumably this server instance will use azure KMS to activate the edition - will this be billed to my subscription if I do this or does server OS offer short trial period? Crux: what's the most lightweight way I can get an AD box in Azure to handle my authentication and setup AD Connect etc given I'm a home labber? 3/ In order to connect to my azure VM's from my home laptop or other client devices - presumably I'll need to setup a point-to-site VPN using some opensource VPN option, is this accurate? 4/ I'm hoping to tear all of this stuff down/setup quickly using ARM templates during my revision - does this kind of setup eat up $200 free credit easily? Sorry to bombard and thanks so much for the series its hands down the best instructional series I've seen in years.
@AzureAcademy3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot! 1. Yes you can create users with your custom emails 2. You cannot build AzureAD DS with a custom image, another reason I would just build a VM and make it a DC, or go full AzureAD Join 3. Yes you will need a VPN IF you build the DC outside Azure 4. Cost depends on what you build and how you run it. For example, If everything powers off every day then you will get more time per months Thanks for watching…please share on social media and with others so they can learn as well ☺️

Born in the Cloud Scenario and Intune - On-Premise MS AD and AAD communicate back and forth through AD Connect. For Businesses born in the cloud, AAD DS are available instead of standing up a domain for WVD management. However, this seems that AAD syncs to AAD DS but objects in AAD DS to not synch back to AAD. Is there a way to get the WVD objects created in AAD DS to sync back to AAD so that they can be managed by Intune? Would you know if there are roadmaps or teams working on this as a solution?
@AzureAcademy3 жыл бұрын
Yes, AzureAD DS can be a great solution for a born in the cloud company...other than that... There is not a way to make the sync go the other way. And even though it “seems” like users from AD sync to AzureAD DS...this is NOT really the case. Users sync to AzureAD The. A totally different sync happens to AzureAD DS. The users are not the same user...and have different source anchors (immutable ID) They are 100% separate, disconnected AD forests and domains. Very exciting exercise, I have almost done all parts last night I just have some question for the DR setup. Can you procide us more info please ?
@jlou655353 жыл бұрын
Quick feedback : - Japan West is compute restricted area on my subscription, I switched for Japan East - To avoid points of failure in this architecture, does it make sense to use Azure Active Directory Domain Service (Enterprise SKU) with replicas in the 3 regions ?

Haven’t made the AZ-140 DR video yet...but I can Answer questions, what can I tell you now?
@AzureAcademy3 жыл бұрын
That is a big question. It depends on what you have today and what you are going to do it WVD. For example MSIX AppAttach does not work with AzureAD DS. Also I suggest you watch this first so you know what AzureAD DS is and what it is not. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYiqh6KAgsl8iMU

@@AzureAcademy you are right but I found a previous video here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYXPnX-sj5uhrZo i tried to implant the DR on your exercise but the fail-over doesn't add the new VMs automatically The Microsoft doc bellow is not totally clear about the setup docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/disaster-recovery
@AzureAcademy3 жыл бұрын
There are multiple DR options...I tried to touch on them in my other video, but there are an infinite number of variables, and I can't cover them all in a video 😉 to be clear...DR in Azure NEVER happens automatically. There is no way to have Azure Site Recovery or any other tool or process in the cloud to automatically failover your workloads from region A to region B. YOU must start the failover process yourself. Once you kick off the process...THEN we can automate everything...does that make sense? With that out of the way... What approach are you taking with DR and what specifically can I clarify for you?

Do we NEED those azure ad ds vms? Or can everything authenticate against the on prem adds?
@AzureAcademy3 жыл бұрын
No WVD does not require Azure AD DS, you can use your on prem AD...However, it is a best practice in Active Directory to have a domain controller in each "Site" to keep things working in case of a network outage. So I suggest building a VM in Azure as a traditional Domain Controller.
