While the new version remains excellent, the original formula, crafted with superior ingredients, exudes a warmth and depth akin to the difference between analog and digital photography-both impressive, but the former possesses an irreplaceable magic.

Great video as always Kelan ! I have both and I love both ! The quintessential aromatic fougère, so good. The new formulation is great, sharper more anis heavy and the OG is more rounder , more blended, smoother a little bit more like shaving cream. To me it’s the most have classic barbershop fougère for every gentleman.

I got this Azzaro Pour Homme last year around May. I love anise and black licorice notes, and looked forward to getting it. The opening put me off right away, was in the process of testing a lot of new fragrances, and Azzaro didn't at the time stack up to what I was looking for. So I gave it to my next door neighbor Mike. He's not a cologne man like me, so he ended up not even wearing it at all. So in this case I went ahead and asked him if he minded if I could have it back? He said sure here you go. Now, it smells so fresh and good, now I get it. The opening that I hated at first I now love. Azzaro Pour Homme is now a permanent staple in my cologne collection and proud to own this 1978 classic, which came out the year I was born. Thanks Kelan.👍

Thank you for the comparison! I have both formulations and I prefer the vintage formula. I get more leather and oakmoss with the vintage. With the current, I get more lavender and spices. The vintage I find a little more dense and punchy. The current I find more light and airy. I usually just layer them with one another.

awesome vid Kelan!! I rocked this, Bijan, and Balenciaga Pour Hommes back in the late 80's thru mid 90's.. Im in my 50's, these were EVERYTHING back in the day..thank you for settling the score on this one as I was torn on which way to go in replenishing my pour Homme supply.. Ive got the Azzaro intense, and love it, it helped me remember what it the OG Azzaro smelled like.. I have current formulation and while I love the lavender/ shaving cream side of it, the anise in my bottle is just a bit too dominant. Still like it though. Wore Bogart Signature today, as recommended by your good self. Fricking love the smokey birch and green pine notes. Three on the neck is enough without choking everyone around you. Cheers bro.

wow i just sprayed this classic for the first time in my life in a drugstore and i am hooked!!! it is soo good. i have a big collection with lots of niche stuff and i am currently very interested in exploring the whole masculine icons .. i have always thought azzaro would be too oldschool for me .. but man how wrong i was.. i am 40 years and still feel young but u know what i mean ;) my father has a bottle of azzaro and i sometimes sprayed it but it was so weak and bland. nothing compared to the great scent i have expirienced today! i think his bottle went bad long ago ! haha i have to buy a bottle tomorrow it is that good - cant wait to watch your video now! thanks!
@manlyscents Жыл бұрын
Very good comparison video 👏The opening of the current version is much sharper, the anise smacks you in the face. The vintage is more toned down, I prefer it even though it projects less and lasts less. Pretty much like comparing current and vintage Paco really.

Well done, as always. Azzaro is still very popular with older men in France. Rumor has it when it was time for Azzaro to be reformulated (like every other fragrance because of restrictions), they did something quite sly: they made it rechargeable without really tampering with the original formula. They simply made it punchier and subtly eliminated the more dated elements. The diehard users were happy because it was still Azzaro and the younger users were happy too. Making it rechargeable means it is now eco friendly. A win-win for the company.
@ScentsOfSouthJersey Жыл бұрын
Yeah they have the refillable bottles …is that what you mean ?

Ohh they sell refills according to the official website (yet I've never seen them)...but what about the 'tooti frooti' line? They came in refillable bottles too and then were promptly discontinued. 😄 Way da go Azzaro. ✊

Great review mate. The first formulation with sprayer is better. 1984-1997. For the current one...I would say that refillable bottle with black sprayer is the worst. I dropped that bottle last year. My bottle with silver spryer 2016 isn't a vintage but is very clo se to your vintage Azzaro. 1997-2007. My opinion is like yours. The second formulation 1997-2007 is not much better than current ones. The real difference is in the first formula : 1978-1997.(splash) 1984-1997(sprayer). Thank you for helping me Cavella

One of my absolute favorites. My dad used to wear this so I have good memories associated with it. @dustybryan91 Жыл бұрын
For me, the vintage is a better performer and smells smoother and richer. I had a bottle from the late 70s. I tend to agree that the modern formulation is good and cheap enough to offset its bad performance. It opens more harsh than the vintage and settles into a synthetic oak moss skin scent within two hours. I actually get a good solid 5 hours of that smooth anise shaving foam aroma with the vintage.

While I very much like the subject of this video, I cannot share the conclusion. Eventually the vintage, 2nd version here, has a richer base. The real moss, the leather, the vetiver and amber creates a full, rich and masculine ambiance. I'm not saying the newer version is poor, it isn't, but it isn't this.

@johnmancini4403 Жыл бұрын
Why do these companies change their formulas?
@jeremyt2212 Жыл бұрын
Sometimes it's due to a fragrance brand being sold from one production company to another, who decides to do things differently. Sometimes regulations force changes, like the way that nobody's allowed to use real oaknoss anymore.
@stuartgross5728 Жыл бұрын
A big part in my opinion is the less and cheaper ingredients that are used and the more alcohol used the more money they make.
