@@b-17archaeology3 A long time ago, maybe fifty years ago I watched a movie where an early B-17 (D?) was flying from either the USA of Hawaii and had just taken off from Pearl Harbour as the Japanese attacked The B17 was island hopping across the Pacific on it's way to the Philippines At either Wake or Midway they cut off the pointed end of the unarmed tail of this early model B17 and mounted a machine gun in the opening, they picked up additional crew/ passengers along the way They crossed the Pacific from island to island immediately ahead of the Japanese advance before eventually arriving in the Philippines I can only remember seeing this movie the one time and as I said it was a long time ago but it was an excellent movie Are you aware of this film and if so could you possibly tell me what it was called ?

I knew that too. I am the son of cpl Richard Hurst. Photo lab technician and photographer 351st bg Polebrook. I remember every time we went to an air show he would sit in his lawn chair under a fortress. For me it’s a passion and a calling. Rest In Peace Pop❤️

You've caught the bug my friend. I've been a Bomber but since Highschool when I had a teacher who'd been a tail gunner on a 17 named Skywolf. George lost his entire crew on the Oschersleben mission, the mission that got recalled so the 303rd bombed alone with just 3 squadrons and no fighter support period as they'd heard the recall order and turned around. Only 1 B-17 made it back from the 358th squadron. The P-51B you see alot with Ding Ho painted on the nose forget his name but he received the medal of honor for assisting the 303rd back that day, even warded off several attacks when out of ammo by going head on with a few German fighters(they didn't know his guns were empty) And your right it's a story that needs to be told. These men made great sacrifices for freedom and should always be remembered.

Thank you for the comment. In my personal collection I have relics to 120 different B-17’s and one includes my largest piece from this mission. The piece is from the plexiglass nose past the navigators window and is 32 inches tall. It is on loan to the March Field Air Museum and is on display with the complete story. Please share my page with friends, I have more episodes coming soon. Greg

I would love to have your job, I've only been in a B-17 once when I was a kid, don't remember which one though, it was at Aurora Municipal Airport in Sugar Grove, IL. I might be able to ask my friend who runs the FBO there I'm sure he would know.

I'm curious if you have any info about my grandpa Capt John W Miser, like which B17 he flew during the war or who was his crew members or missions he flew. Any info would be hugely appreciated. His military ID number was 0-786605-T43-44 *Edit: I found out his B17 was named FiFi.
