I've never understood why the engines on the B-52's never got upgraded to 4 modern, more efficient engines akin to what has been used in the 747 for decades. Perhaps the older engines are more stealthy? Hard to believe if that's the reason. I heard 1-2 years ago that there is a plan to upgrade those engines but retain the 8-engine configuration, I believe. Maybe someone that is in the know will respond.
