I've listened to this far too many times over the last 24 hours. The piece, and the playing of it, are extraordinarily beautiful and translucent. Or just really, really nice.

Thank you so much Alistair. I went to Huddersfield in 1985 and heard a lecture given by David Osmond Smith. He played a recording of a violin concerto by Aldo Clementi and it has remained one of my all time favourite works. It is for solo violin, ensemble and carillons. What I truly loved was that you can hear them winding up the carillons during the recording. That was the first time I heard Sciarrino’s music too. I worked with Salvatore but only met Aldo briefly in Oxford. Aldo was a very gentle and kind soul.

A gem indeed! I’m so enjoying hearing these recordings of your immensely brilliant playing James! And the fact that pieces like this are documented so well is vital. I can’t wait for more ❤

Thanks so much Craig. Cato is a wonder. He re-mastered so much stuff. Each year Geir would challenge me to reach new heights. Then Cato and Sven recorded the concerts. Wonderful times. Plenty more to come. There are the complete piano works of Xenakis for a start. I must find that. I found Komboi, the score. Harpsichord and percussion. Just made for us. Then Eonta. How I would adore to play that with Sjøforsvarets Musikkorps. A Xenakis concert would be quite something. I met him at Huddersfield. So gentle and kind. A very striking visage.

I wonder if Ligeti heard or saw the score of this composition...

That is a really interesting question Bruce. It was written in 1973. Long before the Ligeti Etudes.
