So I'm a latino with Scottish ancestry. I went for vacation to an English speaking country. I look white, but as soon as people hear me speaking Spanish, or just hear my accent, most of them changed their faces, I could see that many tried to keep a fake smile as they talked to me, yet an odd sensation of sundently feeling targeted and unwelcomed was there ever present behind their facade, it was quite an unpleasant experience. "whiteness" in wester countries has more to do with being descendent from especific areas of europe and speaking certain languages ( not having any other ancestry from outside those countries ) most italians weren't consider white for a long time, even when italian is a romance language just like spanish, it would be more accepted than spanish in western countries. Irish ( or any celt group) and "Mediterraneans" were thought as lesser whites, infirior to nordic and germanic. In roman times it was the opposite. Even if you have blue eyes, pale skin and blond hair, if you speak spanish as your native tongue and you act according to costumes you grew up with from your home country, then you ain't white. ( People who look like Milei, the president of argentina, are a good example of what I'm saying)
