I thought Menno lost to Samuka and that he lost to Ives when watching live. I rewatched this battle and still feel and think Menno lost. Hes still good but should not have been given the win here. Ives beat him with character, energy, musicality, and soul. Mennos moves might be slightly more creative here but thats just one category. Ives repeated a basic chair freeze twice but Menno repeated a basic 1 hand turtle/the low side air chair as well so Menno trying to put Ives down for repeats dont hold weight, you can see in Mennos posture, face, and attitude he knows hes not winning the battle, he had to over act and over gesture so the politics of his name and affiliations pressure the judges to vote for him cause it was close enough for the judges to make the wrong decision. Icey Ives is the true champion here, Menno still dope but he should not have been chosen the winner.

I'm sorry but the RedBullBCOne just isn't what is used to be. The way these events are organized now just feel like they're doing the culture of breaking a disservice. The vocabulary of music being played is embarrassingly small, you hear the same tracks and the same songs ever single event. The choice in judges for these events is extremely questionable, you need to pick judges who are credible and have a history of making the right calls for the right reasons. Or at the very least create a system that makes decisions and calls make sense. There are too many talented bboys and bgirls at this point for decisions to NOT be subjective. Also the way RedBull decides to advertise Bc One caters WAY too much to modern trends instead of giving viewers an actual idea of what this culture is about. There is so much beauty and so much history that comes from this culture that could be being shared right now. I worry that if The BC One continues to go in this direction we will continue to lose any attention and lose an entire platform to show what breaking is about. Please Red Bull, DO BETTER.

I like Menno, I think he’s unique. But his style is objectively one of the most boring styles you will ever see. It’s really “safe”. It’s hard to tell if he’s crashing, or hitting something on beat because he has such a slippery style you can’t tell what the hell is going on. His style is not exciting either, to make things worse. Menno is great in a crew, but as a 1v1 BBoy it blows my mind that he has 4 BC One titles now. Menno is definitely not the GOAT of breaking, in my opinion. Someone like Koreas Hong 10 or Wing, are vastly superior breakers than Menno in my eyes. Judges once again being fooled by Menno’s slow slippery safe style.

Here are some points to consider: Judging is always biased. In which ways? It depends case by case, depending on your style and the part of the world you come from. In this case, there were more judges that valued aspects of Menno's style over Ives'. Not only this, not everyone judges in the same format/structure. Some judge round by round and some judge overall impression. Menno's style caters to flow. It's technical and connects well. He was also very clean throughout the three rounds. Ives is responsive to music and tries more to hit accents in the music. I personally think musicality should be weighted the most out of everything, but it did cause him to be sloppier and repeat a couple things trying to improvise in the moment. It is a trade-off. I think if you prefer Ives over Menno, I can see which aspects of the dance you value you more. It's valid and fair, but I think you discredit Menno a lot by not considering what his strengths are.

Don't blame Red Bull for what the judges did. They did not send a man in a suit to whisper in the judges ears. In the dance battle world, even in other styles, there's a lot of OG bias from judges who are usually also OGs. That's literally all that happened. I like Menno, but I don't like him winning because personally I don't see any growth or evolution the way Hong10 grew. Granted I only watched this finals but I saw him at the Olympics and it was the same Menno I saw 4 years ago.
