B.C. Rich Warlock Stranger Things Limited Edition Unboxing

Huge bummer, the guitar came with a Floyd Rose Special instead of the originally listed Floyd Rose 1000 and the quantity went from being 200 to 2,000. Wrong bridge as advertised and not as rare.. The fact that it has a Special on it instead of the 1000 is a huge let down but it is what it is, people make mistakes.
On another note this guitar & bag smells god awful and the set up was so-so. I never expect a guitar to be absolutely perfect out of the box so a little maintenance made it better.
Overall I really like the finish, the neck feels good, frets are fine, but more than anything it shreds. I'll have a playthrough and review up when I can get to it.

I understand that some may argue this guitar (from a practical perspective) isn't worth more than 399.00, and they're right. But it's got the B.C. Rich name (which isn't what it used to be) and it's a limited run of a guitar that's showcased in one of the biggest streaming shows out there at the moment... Just look at what the show has done for Master of Puppets, and that other ridiculous pop song nobody had ever heard of until now... Public interest plays a huge factor in pricing, and that's why this guitar is 900.00. For almost the same money, you can buy a Mexican made Charvel with a Floyd 1000 and Seymour Duncan pickups... Or for half the money you could buy a Harley Benton Fusion with a roasted maple neck, Floyd 1000 and Stainless Steel frets. But if you want a Warlock body with a neck plate that says... "Hellfire Club" on it... It's gonna cost ya.

The imports are limited to 2000. The Custom Shop versions are limited to 200. As to the Floyd: I've heard two things; 1. They actually were supposed to be Specials from the start and somehow the specs were released with the wrong information. 2. They were supposed to be 1000's, but due to a lack of inventory and not wanting to delay the release, they used Specials just to get them out in time. Either way, it's not good.

Don't get me wrong, the factory price for the big brands like Squire and Epiphone is probably a 6th (I suspect lower) of what you pay the dealer, but this is partly because guitars don't fly off the shelf like bottles of milk and so a high margin is needed to compensate.

To be perfectly honest, when I first watched the show the screen i watched it on was pretty dark and I thought it actually was all black. It wasn't until rewatching volume 1 before volume 2 dropped that I noticed the red crackle on my 4k. So I'm sure there are actually people out there other than me who thought it was all black. But this paint job looks sick. Still wouldn't buy the guitar though. Haha. I actually do custom splatter paint jobs on used guitars for fun. Maybe I'll get an old black Warlock and splatter some of my own red on it. Won't look the same, but it always looks fire.

The description online for these was really confusing. Some photos had a natural neck, import version description and photos seemed mixed with USA versions. I contact BC Rich but never got a response. I kinda feel like this is more for a collector to hang on the wall than to be seriously played. Sorry it’s not what you’d hoped but it was enough to make me pass.

Thanks for the review! Nothing worse than a let down on a new guitar day! I just got a new (to me) second hand high end ibanez. Expected it to be playable but was dissappointed i had to basically set the neck and action up myself. So hopefully u can mod that warlock a lil and fall in love with it. Its definately not garbage but it was for sure a marketing money grab thing. But still cool as fuck to a nerd like myself. Shit id rock a hell fire patch on my vest, or sticker on my case

Yeah, it happens. Everyone's set up preferences are different and I'm sure shipping makes a few things move around. I have a FR 1000 on the way, it's literally what's holding up the play and review because I want to do a before and after test to see how much it effects tonality and sustain. The guitar's not "bad" by any means, there were just a lot of miscommunications between B.C. Rich and Guitar Center/Musician's Friend in regards to what the specs were on preorder but GC hooked me up so I can't complain.

Well, the exact guitar on Stranger Things does have a Kahler and it is era appropriate as those things were on a ton of B.C. Rich guitars in the mid 80s. If I was in charge of picking which bridge was going to be on the guitar I definitely would've had a Floyd Rose on Eddie Munson's guitar but it is what it is. Luckily the less expensive model had the more desirable bridge.

Any of the brands that aren't as popular and aren't selling as much have an incentive to offer one, because they have to sacrifice a bit of profit margin for market share. Solar is another example - the A1.6FRC G2 super strat has Seymour Duncan - Solar pickups and a Floyd Rose 1000 as well. BC Rich clearly sees themselves as competitors to the brands I mentioned above. Even though Dean and BC Rich have fallen off lately, they're still considered bigger due to the sheer number of guitars they sold in the 2000s and 2010s, especially the cheap bolt-on Chinese imports. Also don't forget, any crossover product will not be bang for the buck, you are paying a bit of Stranger Things tax.

@@9hk38f Also just FYI, if you’re really chasing the aesthetic, you don’t really have options. The Warlock is a unique shape, nobody besides ESP (LTD AX series/Max Cavalera AX) have tried making something similar. If someone’s dead set on the shape they’re unlikely to go for a super strat, even if it has a crackle finish (like the Jackson X-series soloists).

American version which is $5000 only 200 were made and for the black and relic crackle there were 2000 in total made and so 1000 a piece of each guitar that was $899

Yeah, the preorder specs were way different than what you actually got. Guitar Center had Floyd Rose 1000, hot 86 pickups, made in Indonesia, limited to 200 units, and no case or gigbag. What you actually got was a Floyd Rose Special, BDSM pickups which actually sound good, made in India, limited to 2,000 units which made it not as rare, and it came with a really nice gigbag. I was very mixed about all that, I really felt bait and switched as a consumer but when I sat down and actually played the damn thing and gave it a chance I was pretty surprised. Obviously there was a huge miscommunication but it is what it is. GC hooked me up because of all the confusion so I can't complain.

I really wish they had put the Widow headstock on the ST model in the show. It just compliments the body so nicely. Was it not available on the Warlock in 86? (I suppose I could look it up myself but I'm lazy)

Nah, that wasn't until later but I really like the Harpoon on these. The 6 in line tuner set up really works a lot better opposed to the 3 on 3. The Widow works a lot better on the Warbeast.

@@joeyskar I don't have a ton of personal experience with it. I just like the look of it. My personal pride and joy in my collection is the Musicman JP6 w/piezo and Mystic Dream finish. The tuning stability is excellent and I tend to rip the trem bar pretty violently live sometimes. Haha

I demanded that guitar center should sent me a Floyd rose 1000 they actually compensated me with a Floyd rose 1000 pro (original series with low profile) but it was on back order. So then I’d have to wait, install it and then completely lose my chance of returning it if I still feel like I’m not getting what I paid for. I returned it because I couldn’t even set it up properly due to the Floyd specials poor quality. The tuners were absolute junk, the pickups didn’t satisfy my preferences, floyd special lol and it turns out I’m not a warlock fan. Bc rich straight up lied to people and allowed guitar center to further falsely advertise the guitar and now they have to suffer even more than they have already due to bankruptcy, all because bc rich straight up lied to everyone. I don’t care about the 0 of 2000 thing but that’s still falsely advertised as well. I want this company to come back so bad but it’s just not going to happen under bill xaviers ownership. I’m only 24 and just got into guitars a couple years ago so I never got to experience anything close to the good years of bc rich.

Fortunately, fixing the problems on a FRS to be like a FR1000 is pretty easy. All you need to do is swap the saddles and clamp blocks.

both issues were bad advertising on gc part. the import was always going to be 2000 according to bc rich and same with a floyd rose special. The special isnt as bad as everyone makes them out to be and at 900 they are comparable to any import jacksons and esp at this price point. A new floyd is 200 bucks and really 1100 bucks for a guitar with stainless steel frets and a gigbag compared to some other brands in this field not really that bad. Is it a cash grab to a point, does it matter? not in my opinion an import jackson from india is not coming with stainless steel frets or a gigbag your gonna pay atleast 200 bucks to get that installed. Im just gonna grab a FU-2 from adam at FU-TONE and move on from the special if I have problems.

We know this now but the pre-order specs for the import model said 200 on Guitar Center and Musician's Friend. This guitar, is a legal scam. For the same price, you could of gotten a guitar with a Floyd 1000, neck thru construction, and Fishman pickups. I am sorry you fell victim to this scam. I assume you're talking about the Warlock Extreme? Those are $1,500-$1,600 guitars. I wouldn't compare the feel and playability of this to China, this definitely feels more like a guitar crafted in Korea or Mexico. The frets feel nice, edges are good, neck feels great. The body has some good weight, and the pickups actually sound like vintage Seymour Duncan's with their output being right at 8. The bridge being a Special was definitely a let down but GC hooked me up for the miscommunication so I can't complain. I'm getting a 1000 or a real Floyd for it as I always have the Specials strip out and the nut clamps the specials come with are straight trash. The guitar is decent, not bad.

I own a Shecter Hellraiser Hybrid C-8 at the same price which comes with active EMG 57/66 humbuckers (which are unique to the common 81/89 which are muddier). It also has a color shift paintjob as an extra feature or you can go with the basic version which is a quilted maple top. The binding is straight up just carbon fiber and its got really nice neck-though construction. Its also probably the shiniest guitar I own.

@@aldante7079 the one advantage the black has over the crackle is the maple neck doesn't have paint on it. The paint on the crackle does feel really nice but I imagine the wood is going to feel better.

There is a better version of the guitar and it is a lot more expensive but it is made in america and is a lot better quality

I started to make these to show if there's an issue with an instrument upon opening from the distributor/seller. I had an issue with another guitar from a seller and it turned into them trying to blame me for damages that happened in shipping. In short make sure you have the opening process in the video and always record your unboxings to cover your end.

I’m building one, but struggling to figure out how to get the huge crackle pattern. The one in the show has a lot of texture like they clearly laid something on thick. I think “just paint it like Eddie’s” is going to be harder than it sounds.

That's the contradiction, its only faults are the the FR Special and the tuners. Everything else is actually really good, India actually did a good build.

Yeah, surprisingly the neck is pretty awesome and the pickups are okay but I'm swapping the Special for a 1000 for sure. It feels like $600-$700 guitar, the ebony is nice and the mahogany has really good weight to it. I'll be posting a playthrough soon.
