This engine was well maintained. I'm surprised that the cam buckets didn't last. Does this engine have a design flaw? Some VW PD diesels would have cam bucket failures even when well maintained. 7:24 I thought when installing non roller cams, you needed to use heavy assembly lube with MoS2 instead of engine oil. Honda M-77 would be an example of what you would find in Japan. Other companies may have a different name, but formula is very similar. In the USA, we often use "CRC Moly-Graph." It is extremely valuable over here because we have many OHV engines with non roller cams. OHV engines are even more harsh on their cams than SOHC or DOHC engines. 17:07 I have never seen a spin-on filter with a torque specification. Most manuals have a 2 step process Step 1: turn until the filter is firmly in place Step 2: turn the filter 270 degrees tighter.

Is it only in case of diesels, isn't it? 3:38 At first, he used WAKO'S ASP (Assemly paste).

@@COGMATUBE VW was only having cam bucket failures in PD diesels. However, it is my understanding that whether the engine gasoline or diesel, you have to use heavy assembly lube. The VW PD engine had a design flaw. They have a very narrow cam lobe putting extremely high pressure on a small amount of the cam bucket. If the cam lobes and buckets were designed differently, it might not have happened. The non-PD VW diesels did not have cam or bucket problems.

@@skylinefever Thanks to your info. I'll take care when I purchase VW, it is PD or not.
