B.I is a shortened form of Be I which means being yourself. He chose that name when he was I think 12yrs old after he read about Socrates. And I love how you praised B.I's lyrics, he is actually known for being an award-winning songwriter and producer. He actually won Songwriter of the Year at Melon Music Awards in 2018 for writing his former group's mega hit song Love Scenario. He is the youngest winner and only idol member who received such a prestigious award. He also wrote songs for other artists like Blackpink, Psy, Lee Hi, Epik High, Winner, etc and of course his former group ikon which almost 98% of their discorgraphy were written, composed and produced by B.I. After he left ikon in 2019, he went on a two-year hiatus and last year, he debuted as a soloist. His Waterfall album is sort of like a diary of what he went through during his hiatus. He said he wrote illa illa at the time when he felt alone and abandoned. His songs in that album are raw and personal but at the same time you can somewhat relate to the lyrics and find comfort in them. Plus all proceeds for that album (album sales, digital sales, royalties, copyright fee, content revenue, etc) will be donated to poor women in Zambia, South Africa to help them buy sanitary napkin and help build toilets for them. I wanted to cry when I saw this. Thank u sm for reacting to B.I! 😭 I really really loved your analysis of Illa Illa. It was just absolutely spot on. B.I's story is quite similar to Ilhoon I would say. He is such a musical genius, he was responsible for producing all of Ikon's songs and had so much potential but he made one small bad decision (which he completely repented for btw) but he was essentially kicked out of Ikon and he took a rly long time to get back on his feet. He disappeared from the scene for a couple of years and only recently started his own label (131 Label) and making music again :") I have so so so much respect for BI as a singer songwriter and if you love good lyrics, you've found the right man. This guy is a lyrical genius. Illa illa was a song off of his first solo album Waterfall that he released after all that happened to him. An unfortunate situation but glad to see he was able to turn things around and come back to the industry (and his songs are damn good!) B.I was in a similar scandal as BTOB's Ilhoon and had to leave his group iKon because of that. You will notice that their internal struggles resonate in their lyrics, and both being producers, they create such sweet sounding music but often with dark interpretations. I remember an interaction between the two of them on Idol Radio where Ilhoon asked B.I what he went through that made him write such deep and sad lyrics in his early 20s. I'm sure Ilhoon asked that particular question knowing he could relate to him as well. And being a senior, Ilhoon tried to cheer him up throughout the segment when B.I said he was a lonely person. But I'm glad that both of them are free now, and I hope you give them much love and support. I'm happy to watch you react to some of my favorite artists, and I'm even happier that you are genuinely able to read through their lyrics this well :)

He's a rapper most of the time but he sings sometimes too especially since he made the demos for all the songs for his group and his former group had good vocalists. The amazing thing about Hanbin/B.I is when you hear him rap/sing live he sings exactly the same or even better than the recording studio it's so exciting to watch and hear live.

Illa Illa is such a beautiful song , I had heard before, but didn't know the meaning of the lyrics. Kim Hanbin a.k.a B.I he was the leader of iKON, rapper, lyricist, composer, producer also choreographs. He left the group (2019) because of a dr*g issue(2016) but now he is clear because he did not take dr*gs., he is from Seoul. He's been hated from the very beginning. People just kept on bringing him down until the dr*g issue and so as they thought. Hanbin is in fact a very sincere and lovable person and a very passionate guy and he loves animals. B.I is now an Executive Director in IOK Company and a CEO of his own label, 131Label. You'll know about his life, struggles, depression and how he overcame it all if you listen to his WATERFALL ALBUM and also his other ALBUM COSMOS and few songs from LOVE STREAMING(this is when he came back to us ID's/fans). He also do donation projects from his album and B.I pledges to continue donating his copyright profits for 60 years after death. B.I the youngest and only male idol to win SONGWRITER of the year 2018, and the song he composed won SONG OF THE YEAR 2018(LOVE SCENARIO) this is when he was still in iKON., and he composed almost all of iKON's songs.
