I agree with Ha Nguyen. Yuko was not just a friend or mentor but in many ways like a mother (she looked out for him, took care of him when he was sick or injured, gave him advice about girls and friends) like a father (put him in situations that forced him to confront and conquer his fears and prove his strengh and power) and often like a big sister (the teasing and fun and slight bullying) She was a whole family to him so of course it hurt terribly when he watched her die. But romance... no.

Yeah, I'm going to have to put a big no for Yuuko and Watanuki. To me, Yuuko was like a family member or even a mom to Watanuki. She laughed with him, bailed him out of bad situations, taught him life lessons, and teased him. I can never see them in a relationship. Watanuki is(or, was) a naive, over-the-top school boy who would make shit decisions and Yuuko was like a mother scolding him. As others have said before, you can tell that Kohane wouldn't make the ending cut for CLAMP as Watanuki's true love pairing because when she and Doumeki married(not for love, for Watanuki's sake) the reincarnation(and future reincarnations) would be of Doumeki. Exactly. Doumeki. Down to the same abilities and appearance. Through these reincarnations that would keep Watanuki company, he and Doumeki would always be together. I believe that once Yuuko comes back from the dead to take over the shop once again, the current Doumeki will be Watanuki's true love interest.

I personally think Watanuki's love for Yuko, is more like that of a mother and child, rather than a romantic kind, after all Watanuki never had any real family since his parents died when he was at a young age, where as Yuko took him in, and cared for him even though he was her employee/servant :D

I don't think Watanuki loves Yuuko as such, I think he feels more in debt of Yuuko and that he finally finds a family since he was that lonely child, that he doesn't want to let go of that sense of belonging that Yuuko gave him.
