Béla Bartók exquisitely crafts his 44 Duos for Two Violins. As a composer, I gain additional insights into the music by reading scores while listening. Even if you don’t read music fluidly, try following along guided by the shape and movement of the notes. It may also help you to gain a new appreciation for well-crafted music.

Played many instruments for years, just learning to read now...imho, this is great for guitar or guitar and bass harmony and rhythm study too. Or for imagining a tuba on bass for the jam, Haha.

Just like every great author will tell you: you can't be a great author without doing a lot of reading. Same with composing. I am by no means a great composer, but if you want to be even a halfway decent composer, score study is your friend. Look at what the masters do, what works and what doesn't, then take that knowledge into your own style and what you are trying to do.

I must admit, when I looked at the score, I didn't expect these to be very enjoyable. It seemed like Mikrokosmos Books 1-2 style exercises. They're very beautiful, expressive, and character-driven. No doubt, though, they require players who will play with sensitivity to the phrasing, which is less apparent in some of the movements of Bartok's notation.

Timestamps for Sarita: Oláh Nóta (Wallachian Song) - 4:50 (cool rhythms) Burleszk (Burlesque) - 12:44 (starts silly but devolves quickly Szunyogtánc (Mosquito Dance) - 19:16 (quicker and rhythmically interesting) Mennyasszonybúcsútató (Bride's Farewell) - 19:52 (dissonant, drama, but slow) Máramarosi Tánc (Dance from Máramaros) - 28:41 (difficult, but absolutely great) Számláló Nóta (Enumerating Song) - 30:42 (might be my favorite for "quick but dissonant")
