Great recording! I am slowly working on restoration of 2 of these sirens that were converted from gasoline engines to electrical and keeping a third operable in the City of Memphis TN. I've had the motor rebuilt on one already and the body needs some sheet-metal components replaced too. We currently have 8 other sirens being refurbished to install on pole configuration which account for 7 P-15s and one Thunderbeam. Our goal is to have all of the sirens currently atop roofs refurbished and configured this way. We're also about to re-install a P-50 back on its pole after the motor was rebuilt and what was left of the fiberglass housing repaired and repainted.

This is a lot like the ones we had in my former hometown of North Vancouver, B.C. When I was around 10 they tested these sirens (it was 1982 and Yuri Andropov was premier of the USSR, and many were worried about a nuclear attack) and the mayor at the time wasn't even sure they would function. But they did, and some remained in place for a few years as an alert system for a possible dam failure.

A bit late finding this. It would have been good to have when the dam spillway was opened by mistake and someone down stream lost their life because there was no alarm for the Cleveland Dam.

That one is still there but no longer runs, as I found out this past December when I went to go see the test. Denver upgraded their system as well to a lot of 2001-130s. It appears they also rethought the layout of the system as well so rather than simply shove new sirens up against the old ones, many of the replacements are in new locations.

its because some thunderbolts would have 5/6 port choppers, while 2T22/3T22s would have 10/12 port which is double a thunderbolt's explaining why it sounds like both

A 125 as in an Allertor? If so, allertors have motor covers on the back. That is the main difference, and also for the newer Allertors with the Long horns- Mobil Directos had short horns. Just like the older Allertors.

There are many differences between the Allertor and the MD such as the material, chopper design(some allertors have the same like the 130 and the old 125 with a 10/12 chopper).
