Jimbocho is an stimulating section of the city with many internet cafes and hobby shops as well. I don't remember the noren 暖簾 but tempura was ok. The budokan 武道館 as well as Showakan 昭和館 are nearby. The different hobbies in Japan might find aficiandos in Connecticut, such as miniatures and wargames. Japanese antiques might have a good market in the Northeast and there is already a market in Norwalk, Connecticut, which also has had a Japanese language program in the high school.
Nice trip to Jimbocho! I always go over budget there too. I would have gotten excited about the PROVOKE photography generation book. Baudelaire and David Bryne. In the US we would say it was a "nice haul" (nice treasure hunting) in Japanese bookstore utopia. I had wondered why Jimbocho had so many curry shops. When I was a college student I remember eating ramen or plain rice or macaroni because all my budget went to books or LPs / CDs. Maybe it is the same for many Japanese college students. Enjoy book life.

I wonder too. There are many delicious curry restaurants. Browsing second-hand bookstores is like a treasure hunt. Have a good reading life!

@@L-Rimbaud thanks. I’m always so excited to explore especially used bookstores in Japan. Japanese are / were great readers. And I’ve lived almost two decades on an island with fewer readers or bookshops. My hometown (Minneapolis) was a great city for bookstores and libraries - perhaps because the weather and culture both encouraged reading. Enjoy book life… and curry.

@@AndrewWertheimer I've heard that people who buy books in Jimbocho want to read the book they bought right away, so they appreciate curry that can be eaten with one hand.

@@わたぼう-f5t thank you for that theory. I was wondering the cause, in addition to Maruzen and Hayashi Rice. I suppose they also had a flavor of modernity and armchair adventure like the curry at Hibiya park (library and hall where many protests were held) … and the old prewar press agency.
