Azzaro PH 1978…Antaeus 1981 / Ébène When I first whiffed Ébène in 1986. I was 36. Knocked -me-off-my-feet. This gem had an insane projection and a phenomenal dry down. This was definitely an attraction-magnet for sure! Extremely ANIMALIC! You would have to be very confident to pull this off in-the-day! *** Super review Ramsey!! Thanks for the sample indeed Anooj! I dont get much animalics from Ebene de Balmain compared to say Kouros or Antaues... but I would recommend this to someone who wants something strongly masculine without the major Animalics of the day in other masculines 🤌🤌🤌

Ramsey, you continue to amaze me! I have no channel nor am I a perfumer, but everything you said in your rant (which I love and completely agree) I have said in my own disappointment and disgust with the perfume industry. Since I was very much around in the 70’s and 80’s, I remember well the excitement of a new fragrance. They were not churned out every day or every hour like they are now. There were very few fragrances back then and most were designer perfumes, but something new was a rarity and usually a wonderful and unique smell. Today, lots of perfumes are generic and smell the same. Your rant said it all and is the unfortunate truth. As a collector and lover of perfumes, it saddens me to see such greed as well as so many dupes of the same genre. With that being said, I am going to spray myself with my vintage bottle of Jean Patou 1000. Thank you so much for your brilliant rant!

BTW as an intresting coincidence... in my Bal à Versailles Video I mentioned Bal à Versailles took the top spot for most expensive fragrance composition from Jean Patou Joy... so Joy came out in the mid 1930s & then Bal à Versailles came out in 1962, then in 1972 Patou 1000 overtook the top spot from Bal à Versailles as the most expensive composition again! I have still never smelled Patou 1000... one day I find a bottle ... but I better hurry since it is now discontinued 🥺

Not to mention that all the brands are raising prices 30% to 40%. I was just saying this before. The fragrance industry is pissing me off as well. The amount of new releases that I’ve bought are really low. Hopefully the money stops rolling in during the Recession and a bunch of stock ends up on discounters. If the brands don’t get them back and destroy the bottles.

I have the same exact little 3,5mil since I was a child! I kept a lot of little samples of the era. My Ebene is still half full! Wonderful scent, I loved it even as a child even though is very very masculine.

When I was 11 years old my father, who had a good collection of mens perfumes back then, gifted me a bottle of Ebene in 1984. I absolutely loved it back then and when I had the chance to smell it again at an antique shop 15 years ago, I immediately travelled back to those times. What a treat it was. Awesome mens eau de toilette!! I may need to get a bottle myself now that I'm getting into fragrances again. Thanks for posting this review.

ive never had a Balmain, until i got an 70s or 80s bottle of Monsieur Balmain today....its pretty amazing and complex. I'm really starting to understand the "boundaries" of the citrus aromatic genre and what it all entails. This is REALLY good though, this is the citrus aromatic for the dude who isn't wowed by eau sauvage (you lol). it DOES remind me of Pour Monsieur by Chanel, but i havent smelled that in a few years. Then i looked up ebene prices......lmfao nope.

You always know that when there's a preceding 'I'm going to have a LITTLE rant' it's going to be anything but! Totally agree with everything you pointed out, these are strange times. Apparently we are nowadays 'well informed' but the tactics used are anything but cloaked. Is it that today's society isn't given an iota of respect or are we completely dumbed down? Or rather worryingly are we too concerned to speak our minds. I don't know, I'm trying not to come across as a know it all or a grumpy 'boomer' but what I see causes me concern for my kids future. Maybe we have got to the point where we can't cope with some of the advances we have made. Joking aside Ramsey, it's your passion for this subject that comes through here, you have this platform and you know us well so go for it! You're only voicing what is on most of our minds. So onto the rest of this video, you know I used to love the little leaflets that came with fragrances, and me being me I read them after opening, it was part of the pleasure of the ownership, plus you could find ancillary products which I would buy. As Al says this was all a part of the ' game'. As I've said before, don't worry about the pronunciation, even your best French accent will never satisfy a native French speaker, never mind the fact that outside of Paris no one speaks French properly....yes I heard that phrase from you know who. I saw this fragrance in the shop s when it came out but at the time I had my preferred houses so never tried this, now as a perfume lover it has intrigued me and it's on the list. Going back to the opening point I recently scored a vintage version of a fragrance that had been on my list for some time, now the latest version is discontinued there's a bottle 5 times what I got the original ( desired) version of. I would hope those that know will not fall for this daylight robbery. I really got your imagery in this video, as for dark, black I get that with Jacomo de Jacomo which comes in that black bottle. Of which Antaeus to me gives off the colour of the box, I've always felt that. Anyway over and out. 👍

Hey Rams ,unicorn fragrance for sure looking it up a few mini bottles and sketchy stuff in Eastern Europe Etsy type sites with no English language to be had lol. But it sounds marvelous for sure. I think. 1st August you will hit the streets and the hunt will commence haha . Just spritzed T.F. And the stress of the unknown seller and fake or damaged you know the drill hahaha, however I will say they are indeed Ramsey approved little gems, from better times and better perfume suppliers,The golden years if you will 👍

Now, this is a Ramsey Rant we need to hear. _I'm as mad as hell and were not going to take this anymore_ Network 1976 I was at a grocery store just the other day, and a woman looked at the price of 4 muffins, 5.99. After she read the price she simply said, "No, no, no". The inflection and volume in her voice didn't go from high to low, but instead, went from low to high and ended in a frustrating decisive convicted high. Now yes the price of milk has receded some, along with gas at the pump, along with copper silver etc, but the DXY was an a tear and reach 5% above its normal movements to 1.08, that though has retraced to 1.05 and commodities just came off their lows. Powel likens himself to Volkner, a FED who continued in spite of a recession coming. Powel states that he is watching the unemployment rate. Something he is well aware of as a lagging indicator. What he is watching is that interaction, plus he's looking at logging, chemicals, US Wholesale inventories, which are up 26% annually, along with Business Inventotires which are up 17% annually, plus Factory Orders. So, to my point, these perfume companies are making a mistake. Look up Weber and read their report. Walmart and Target are talking about these builds. Amazon's numbers weren't all that wonderful, it was their guidance. You know end of the month and what it does. Now to the side of the perfume companies, not really on their side, but they have AfterPays, Klarna's, and PP in 4. But I see another half to this. People using their Credit Cards to help pay because of rent prices, and this will cut into their pay in 4's. Gotta pay for the car and house first, the essentials with their cards. People aren't going to pay up like they used to, especially if their house along with their monthly statements are less. I just picked up Aramis Cologne, with no emb, no barcode, basically no nothing except for three ingredients, and it is special for, drum roll please, 19. Wait till people find that s**t out. So keep your rants turned way up high Ramsey, and stay mad as hell. I'll most likely get your package out, not this Tuesday, but the following. eddie.

Really does sound like a great contrast. Especially with that textured moss and dark leather in the base. Dark knight leather. 😄 Side note, someone should legit release a super dark leather fragrance called "Black Hole." 🎇 The one you throw your money into. 😆 But yeah, true-labdanum heavy, warm-sooty and with a bunch of other resins to weigh it down. Beaufort style? Anyway, now I'm in the mood for Tuscany Per Uomo. 😄 Great impressions brother.

I would say if every houses and designer putting out good stuffs liked Papillon and R Adam, even in a fraction of the price, we would be going broke 😆.i have passed a lot of fragrance since watching you. Thanks for that . Nowadays well to do people would buy dupes which are better in quality coz these big brands would cut cost in the name of being " sustainable and consciousness".Most don't be respect them anymore. e.g. the Chanel bags and accessories are lots of problems. Tons of complaints.🤦🤦
