I was a european history major in college and your description of the conditions in Germany leading up to World War II are in synch with what my professor impressed upon me. If you want an example of how quickly Germany addressed some of its wrongs after World War II, look at the Gernan Basic Law of 1949, wherein Germany restored citizenship to those who had lost it due to persecution, as well as to their descendants (Artikel 116 - Grundgesetz für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland).

@@spanishgitana Yes, I just learned about it too. In my situation it means that for my whole life, if I ever need it, I could just move to Germany and I’d be a German citizen. In fact, I would be considered as never not having been German. I can also be naturalized as German by submitting an application without leaving my own country. Either way it's nice to know that if I ever need it Germany has my back. Just two sentences to read: Artikel 116 Absatz 2 GG.

If you click the little wheel you should see an option to generate automatic subtitles, it then lets you choose a language. I use that many times when watching videos in my target language. It’s not perfect and the letters are a bit small but it’s better than nothing :)

It is an interesting question, whether a dictator like Adolfo could happen again. One would think that people have learned from history, but look at the antisemitism on the rise today. We have this same situation about honoring and remembering the past in the US today. Many cities and states are removing statues of Civil War veterans in an attempt to not offend the current generation. In many ways this is a bad idea because it is an attempt at erasing and forgetting history. Many bad things happened in the past but we have to remember what happened and teach future generations so it doesn't happen again. Thank you for the thought provoking video. I understood about 90% of it. - Dave

Thanks for your comment Dave! Yess I understand your point. I’ve come across some experiences where they wanted to censor or delete offensive for todays standard literature or art in general. Which is a risk and will not fix any situation by itself. Un saludo :)

Es muy interesante tu comparación de las maneras diferentes en que se tratan el pasado oscuro en España y en Alemania. Lamentablemente aquí en Alemania en los últimos años hay tendencias en algunos partes de regresar a estos tiempos oscuros. Creo que es importante el discurso abierto con la historia de cada país. Aunque la mayoría de la gente que vive hoy día no es responsable por los crímenes del pasado tenemos la responabilidad que nunca la historia se repita.

im sorry but imho sometimes let bygones be bygones...its not always safe to try to rectify or bring historical justice. im ukranian...and our government has set on a path to restore historical justice whst ussr and russia has done ,sometimes centuries ago....and it resulted in a full blown war with russia....it wouldve been better if they just let it stay in the past...they just brought up century old shit to the surface

Hablar de Adolfo está totalmente fuera de mi zona de confort. Odio tanto lo que él representa y lo que él hizo. No podemos olvidar, pero no quiero recordar. En el caso de España, creo que la diferencia es que lo que sucedió fue completamente interno. Es mucho más fácil olvidarlo si no hay atención de los países externos. Hace un año fui a Normandia donde mi abuelo llegó con 18 años en los primeros barcos de D-day y desde visitar ahí me fascina el tema de la guerra. Tb es muy interesante como aquí en España el gobierno aborda el tema de la guerra civil y todo eso. Pronto reconocerán lo que pasó en Guernica segurooo 🙄 Gracias por el video!!

Muchas gracias - muy interesante, como siempre! La guerra civil es un sujeto fascinante, especialmente porque sus heridas ya no son curadas. Cuando tenía mis vacaciones en la región de Murcia hace diez años, vi grafiti con los simbolos de las organizaciones de esta epoca utilizado hoy en día también. Por ejemplo, la frase "no pasarán", los nombres de CNT y FAI, y muchas cruces celtas de los neofascistas. Alarmante. En KZbin, hay videos de un serie de "Granada TV" de Inglaterra desde las ochenta con el nombre "The Spanish Civil War" que es super interesante. La gente de aquellos tiempos hablan allí, incluyendo La Pasionaria y "El Cuñadísimo"!
