Finally someone not babying this piano and letting it roar, like it was intended, demonstrating all the thunder and richness in that bass register!

when i was a teenager i had the honor to play on an Imperial. Awesome Video but trust me... no video ever can reproduce this magic sound. The air was vibrating, the Grand was breathing, living the wooden ground i was sitting was shaking. At this moment i was catched by the Bösendorfer magic. Never forgot this awesome rendezvous with the Imperial.

The extra bass notes aren't really for playing. They add harmonic resonance.

Why are the extra bass natural keys in black?
@jlouis44072 ай бұрын
They’re the keys most other pianos don’t have so they color them black

That sounds awful, those bottom notes on the Imperial are a waste and unsatisfying to at least my ear. There is, from my experience virtually no compositions that have been composed for those dreaded low end bass notes. It makes me appreciate my 1914 Bluthner Aliquot 6'3"Grand more and more. Thankyou Sherwood, great video

I'd expect them to find most use (besides being there for resonance when the damper pedal is pressed) in improvisation.
@TheBroughamGamer7 ай бұрын
They were created for certain transcriptions from organs which needed to replicate 32ft+ stops. Most of the time you won't ever play them. They do however, increase sound board area and general resonance of your normal key set.

I mean it's in equal temperament tuning but in La Monte Young's 1987 performance of the well tuned piano he uses the bottom keys on the imperial for the massive drones quite well. it did have to go through multiple months of tuning to get the sound quite right for that performance though.
