Always loved the Bowers & Wilkins 800 series. The design the structure everything. However if I made a copy I'd probably change everything about the drivers and crossover. I've had a bookshelf scanspeak diy set for a while now. It sounds amazing and I'd put the quality up there with B&W's 800 series even though it's a bookshelf. They are amazing speakers that I'd love to build into something this size. What's funny is Sony did create a scanspeak loudspeaker the SS-AR1 (27k). That's sort of the components I'd use. Your design and attention to detail are amazing. Bar none on your reproduction of these speakers. Great work.

@theoracleprodigy6 жыл бұрын
@@royk007 I wouldn't be able to create those sorts of plans. When I built a set before I cheated and purchased everything from madisound. They created the specs for the crossover and gave me the idea for the box size when I purchased it from them. They have a few kits which give you every spec as well even some with built crossovers. The kit I have been eyeing forever is the Scan-Speak B741 Speaker Kit. At $3600 before adding in the box I don't think I'll be building it anytime soon ;)

I think I need one year to have enought money for the cabinets, chross owers (in ewery part same as the original) and the cabeling (VDH CS 12). Please let me know where are you from, because Id like to ask you to make me the marlan head copy. Once again thanks for the motivation video. Best regards DIY fan.

There are some really skilled people around. Quite a few people in China have copied this design. I have heard the mistrial sag-350 and although not as good as B&W, they sound very good. All the "copies" on sale are at "too good to be true prices" so don't pose a threat to B&W really. The copies are obvious but buyer beware. I an an ex B&W dealer and I can tell you the B&Ws are the real deal.

Looks like he bought the original B&W carbon drivers, kevlar midrange and diamond tweeters to complete the job. Thats not going to work out cheap. There is still a fair bit of science to recreate the same midrange and high frequencies which I think is best left to B&W than clone reproductions.

You took pictures of your monitor? You couldn't just save the rendered image and use that? Excellent work, well done. I was particularly impressed with the molded casts. But a few questions, why did it take you 2 years? And where did you find the internal structure of the speaker to copy? Did you have an existing 800 series to take apart? Or is there a blueprint somewhere online?
@odincoulombe7065 жыл бұрын
After going to all this trouble you could have upgraded these to be far better than the originals.The owner himself said he uses an unimpressive cheap crossover system in these speakers.He says it makes them sound better lol,i say no he is a cheap ass. With all that trouble you could have used seas drivers for the mids and bass,and kept the tweeter and had a much better pair. Im guessing that wasnt your goal.

I will echo so many others... as a work of art they are super impressive. I particularly like the olive veneer. But why go so far as to copy the design and the name?? DIY projects are admirable but clearly have no resale value. Using the manufacturers name is setting yourself up for all kinds of trouble. You have moved from impressive DIY to fraudulent fake. I use DIY speakers that are loosely based on a manufacturer who publishes their design and invites home builds. I also changed the design to make my version of improvements. Why did you not play some music and comment on the sound? Do you assume we believe they sound like the original. I seriously doubt it.
