I have never seen Buakaw show another fighter this kind of respect, and almost fear lol.. its super crazy to see.. you will rarely if ever see Buakaw give up the center of the ring, and not be the aggressor.. it was very obvious he respected what Jean Charles could do, a great fight to watch. and for those who don't know.. the reason they "touched gloves again for some reason" was a sign of mutual respect.. jean charles caught him with a good liver kick, and buakaw clipped him with a good headkick, neither of them really phased tho.. so they both said "good shit man" and carried on.

Us Thai denominated Jean Charles Skarbowsky "Perfume of death" (Num Hom Morana) because we call France as perfume land due to very long history of perfume imports. He maybe the second Nak Muay Farang whom us Thai actually admit and respect after Ramon Dekkers, all others are bogus to us. You can see how Buakaw was cautious and being careful in this fight in contrast to when he was fighting other farangs. He knew well he might lose if reckless. This match is one "chess" of Muay Thai. it is rare that Buakaw leaves the center of the ring to his opponent. A lot of work with the farang, for Buakaw it must make him happy to have an opponent of this level. Good spotting, it's insane rare he does this, I think it was from the concept that JCS saw Buakaw on the plane from HK to Bangkok and out two and two together yet didn't pull out of the fight like farang have been known to do, and still slid into the fight to give him a run for his money. Absolutely love the slow-mo exchange at 17:04. Skarbowsky reads Buakaw's mid-kick, shifts his center of gravity slightly, pushes the kick to the side and comes back with an insanely fast, painful looking mid kick that I'm pretty sure catches Buakaw just behind the bicep. Buakaw immediately comes back with one of the most ridiculous kicks I've ever seen. From what I can tell (I'm watching the slow-mo replay at 0.25 speed and I'm STILL struggling to see the kick properly) Buakaw telegraphs another mid-kick that Skarbowsky nonchalantly goes to block, before changing the arc of his kick HALFWAY INTO THE KICK HE JUST LAUNCHED, shooting his leg up around Skarbowsky's block to land cleanly on his dome. What makes the kick even more insane is the fact that the second half of his kick is EVEN FASTER than the first half. The camera literally can't catch the majority of the second half of the kick because its faster than the camera's framerate.

Great fight - incredible skill displayed by both fighters. Poor announcing though. One announcer is painfully clueless and the other knowledgeable, but they both did their best to make the fight seem much more one sided than it actually was. The right man, Buakaw, won, but please give Skarbowsky the credit he deserves - he fought an amazing fight, but lost to a legendary fighter in Buakaw. Get some announcers who both know what they are talking about and who don't actively trie to take the wind out of the fight for the viewers. Would be nice.

During the following year Skarbowsky became n°1 of the Rajadamnern Stadium for the second time and retired. I'm impressed by his ftl reflexes even after some serious hits to the head, he can take a high kick like it's nothing.

Awful commentary of course, but nevertheless this film is such a treat! Skarbowsky did an amazing job of finding Buakaw's openings and blocking his powerful high kicks. So amazing to see two legends of the sport going at it in the ring!

goofy announcers, they missed so much of the fight. Western announcers are always so impressed to see spinning elbows, but you rarely see these have any effect on muay thai fighters, usually they miss or bounce off. This fight I think was before Buakaw focused more on boxing. I was surprised he didn't use elbows more, but then he probably had too much respect for Skarbowsky for that. As usual in muay thai, I love that both fighters displayed so much respect for each other. It separates this sport from most other martial arts and fighting styles.

I saw him doing work on the experienced MMA talent on an older Ultimate Fighter season with GSP. So just had to see if he went up against big competition in true Muay Thai, lo and behold Jean-Charles Skarbowsky went up against one of the best to ever do it. Wow! I mean Buakaw clearly looks more beautiful in technique (of course like all Thai's who've been born and bred to do it since they were kids - almost making all Thai practitioners child-prodigies) and outclassed him, but Jean showed he is a true master of the rhythm, technique, and nature of the game. His composure, poker face, and solid, solid base and doesn't back down with proper closing off of angles or opportunities (nearly impossible to do correctly for foreigners against a real thai, especially at this high a level of competition). Jean may not have been born in Thailand and grown in a stable like his opposition but he definitely lived over there for over a decade or 2 with some serious talent to hang in there like a legit Thai fighter.

Wellllll.... Maybe in Kickboxing. Buakaw was never a Lumpini Muay Thai champion (he was ranked 2nd) before he switched. He wasn't the best Muay Thai fighter - but he was the best to adapt the style into Kickboxing. He is one of the most popular Muay Thai fighters for it, but definitely not the best Thai fighter even during his prime.

The reason why it has been said to the "public" that Skarbowsky training was concealed, is because he actually did not trained at all for 6 weeks before this combat, due to an injury. Putting this in perspective, it's not crazy to claim is could have been superior to his opponent with a decent training....

The commentator definitely have no clue what’s going on
First, there’s 7 years difference between the two guys. Buakaw was then at the peek of his kickboxing career and Skarbowsky stopped his nak muay career one year after this match. Second Skarbowsky did fight around half of his matches in Europe where fight style was at his time much tougher than in Thaï - opponents wanted to hurt you badly - which meant shorter careers in the end because your body is worn out. Third, if you don’t listen to the poor comments during the match and look at what happens: who is at the center of the ring and going forward? Buakaw did not steal the result of this match, but a two years younger Skarbowsky would have defeated him surely. If anyone doubt this just have a look to his matches in Thaï or in Vegas vs legendary champion Robert Kaennorasing. Buakaw is one of my favorite Thaï fighters along with Robert and Dieselnoi, probably some of most powerful ones of all time. But Skarbowsky is another beast, he had the thunder. He’s probably the one with the biggest amount of deadliest ko victories in that period. Not tkos or gentle kos, I mean the real bad stuff when the opponent leaves the ring on a stretcher with his eyes rolled back. Few people unfortunately remember that Skarbowsky was Raja’s champion or that he fought for king of Thailand anniversaries for 2000 to 2005. Few people know as well that when in Paris he was training at the same Muay Thai gym than Jerome Le Banner and sparing with him.
