I am confused about the present perfect continuous sentences I couldn’t choose because both sounded right for me , can you explain please ?
@englishteacherlebo
@englishteacherlebo 9 ай бұрын
Of course, Zineb! I'd be happy to help....The present perfect continuous tense emphasizes actions that started in the past, are ongoing, and have a connection to the present. For instance, "I have been studying English for two hours." The present perfect simple tense focuses on actions completed in the past with no emphasis on duration. For example, "I have studied English." Choosing between them depends on whether you want to highlight the ongoing nature (present perfect continuous) or the completion in the past (present perfect simple) of the action. Hope it makes sense🙂

@englishteacherlebo
@englishteacherlebo 13 күн бұрын
I'm not 100% sure that I understand your question but -" Used" is a past participle form of the verb "use." It is often used in passive voice constructions or perfect tenses. For example: "The book was used by many students." The gerund form of the verb "wake" is "waking." A gerund is a verb form that functions as a noun in a sentence. For example: "Her constant waking kept the whole house up at night.

16/20 Can you explain "They are used to living in a Big city. To + ING i Don't understand
@englishteacherlebo
@englishteacherlebo 5 ай бұрын
Well done on your score! In this case, "used to" means being familiar or accustomed to something. When you use "used to" in this way, it's followed by a gerund (the -ing form of a verb) to indicate the action or behavior that someone is accustomed to. So, in the sentence "They are used to living in a big city," it means that the people mentioned are accustomed or familiar with the experience of living in a big city. I hope this helps! x

I don't understand since and for, could you explain it?
@englishteacherlebo
@englishteacherlebo 7 ай бұрын
Certainly! "Since" and "for" are both prepositions used to indicate duration or time, but they are used in different contexts. "Since" is used to indicate a specific point in time when an action started. It is commonly used with a specific date, year, or a particular point in the past. Here’s an example - I have been working here since January. (The action of working here started in January.) "For" is used to indicate the duration of an action. It shows how long an action has been happening or how long it lasted. Example: I have been working here for 5 years. (This means the person has been working at the same place for a duration of 5 years.) I hope this helps xx

I got 19/20 but please ma'am clear my confusion why ("I will call you when I arrive" is correct and why "I will call you when I will arrive" is not correct..please ma'am help me🙏🙏🙏
@englishteacherlebo
@englishteacherlebo Жыл бұрын
☺The sentence "I will call you when I arrive" is correct because it follows the correct grammatical structure for expressing a future action in relation to another event. In this case, "I will call you" is the main clause, expressing the future action of making a phone call. "When I arrive" is a subordinate clause that specifies the condition or point in time when the action will take place. The word "when" is used to introduce the subordinate clause and establish the relationship between the two clauses. The reason why "I will call you when I will arrive" is not correct is because it contains a redundancy. Using the future tense verb "will" twice in the sentence ("will call" and "will arrive") is unnecessary. Since the main clause already expresses a future action, it is not required to use the future tense again in the subordinate clause. The correct sentence "I will call you when I arrive" conveys the intended meaning that the phone call will occur after the person arrives at their destination. I hope this makes sense ☺

I believe "she is taller than I" is correct....
@englishteacherlebo
@englishteacherlebo 10 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comment. In terms of grammatical correctness, "she is taller than I" is indeed a valid construction. It follows the pattern of a comparative statement, where "taller than" is used to compare the heights of two people. However, it's worth noting that in casual conversation, many native English speakers commonly use "she is taller than me" instead. The reason for this is that "me" is an object pronoun, which is more commonly used in informal speech. While "she is taller than I" may be considered more formally correct, it can sound a bit formal or old-fashioned in everyday conversations. Ultimately, both forms are widely understood and accepted, so you can choose the one that feels more natural to you or fits the context in which you're speaking.

Taller than me its right
@alexchristopher221
@alexchristopher221 Ай бұрын
It depends on whether “than” is used as a conjunction or as a preposition. If it is used as a conjunction, the sentence should be “She is taller than I [am].” If it is used as a preposition, the sentence should be “She is taller than me.” After a preposition, we use the objective case of the pronoun (me). "I" is subjective. So formally, "She is taller than I" is incorrect.
