I remember many nights at 3am hearing DJ's Larry Patterson or Tee Scott may they both R.I.P. play this and rock Club Zanzibar in Newark, NJ. This was back in the time when you could hear a wide variety of music at all the major clubs in the NYC area like the great Paradise Garage with the legendary Larry LeVan, Better Day's, the Loft and a few others!

Seriously, this is one of their best songs. Its incredibly funky ( I see you, David Byrne); and, yet, there is no mistaking that's Ricky's guitar style. I do think the ep is underrated. Who knows what could have been if the album had been completed. But, it's still fun.

Absolutely love this track and this band. Oddly, the B52s actually led to John Lennon's death. John was vacationing in the Bahamas and heard the B52s, called Yoko and said "Momma, it sounds like you singing!"...That led to the couple returning to public life and recording "Starting Over", which attracted his killer to come to NYC.

This song could have been a huge hit if it had a better producer at the time and more of a dance beat. Byrne's version was too slow and mellow. When the B's did it live back then, it was way, way, waaaaay better.
@punchcar8 жыл бұрын
That's what producer David Byrne (the Talking Heads) had in mind. If you listen to the whole e.p., it was a talking heads album with the B52s singing. The other albums got you on the dance floor. This one goes for the mind. By the way, you are sooooo right about the live versions.

Gary Clement Uuuh, this was a HUGE jam on the underground House Music scene. It's LEGENDARY. We NEVER got why this didn't blow up on the radio, but the radio was ALWAYS late.
@vitaboy645 жыл бұрын
This is a classic just as it is. Very well produced. No one expected this to be a hit among the underground house, dance and college crowd as it was. The PR didn't know how to market this. They get too stuck in the so called genres that they box an artist in.
