I generally recommend the manga for it's themes and characters. The world building can be pretty intimidating but it'll won't take to long to grasp thanks to how well it's expected.

NANA is one of the best manga ever made. Most manga readers are just mostly male and/or teenagers that is why it's not in the spotlight. I really appreciate when guys like NANA. It's far from teen shoujo, which are unrealistic with unrealistic 2d men. It's so down to earth it's almost depressing. The struggles of Hachi, an overly dependent and idealistic woman and Nana O. who also has her own struggles in romance and independence. And like you said, it's just a story about life and how bittersweet living is.

Been reading it this year since Viz reprinted all the manga volumes. Great so far, though I’m on Vol. 9 at this point and I’m hoping at least there will be some happy moments for the characters ahead because, damn, is it depressing right now. Takumi is just the worst, I fucking hate this scumbag.

If Ashita no Joe proves that Shounen is not just adventure and beatings, he who created Battle Shounen, Nana proves that Shoujo should not be synonymous with less, because this manga is more mature than many Josei.

I think Nana gets treated like the Berserk of shoujo: creators don't analyze it because they assume it needs no explanation. Paradoxically, that means it doesn't get as much airtime even though it's like #2 behind Sailor Moon in bestselling shoujo per volume.

Possibly the only reason I enjoyed Chobits so much was becasue I read it 20 years ago, was a great story for the time with how uncertain it progress would be over the next 20 years (could not predict how it turned out today!), so I could look past initial pitch. Nana though is 10/10, finished it 3 times over the years. Have it ready on my ereader for another spin.

I'm glad you liked Holyland, it's so frickin' good man I recommend checking out the other works of the author (Kouji Mori) if you liked it : "Suicide Island" and "Taiga of Genesis" are relatively similar to it, and I heard "Destroy and Revolution" is also really good. It could be interesting to see your take on them, since despite their great ratings they're not talked about much (kind of like when you talked about Taiyo Matsumoto which I didn't know even existed). Anyways, great video and editing, loved the "menu list" thing where you pull out the manga : +1 sub

On one hand, it's visually stunning with editing chops that put most dialog-centric KZbin channels to shame, but on the other hand, the scripting is so casual you'd think you were watching a college fratboy talk about cars or something. Nana is really great at emotional development and also becomes way deeper in the end and shows how the main characters Nana Hachi and Nana O deal with their romantic problems and individual lifestyle. It’s not the typical romance it’s very mature and realistic also it even shows who they choose to be with in the end for various reasons and the regrets also happiness from their decisions.

Battle angel Alita Last order is a sequal manga to Battle angel Alita from 1990. No wonder it was all wierd to you, you're missing a lot of context from the original story. Seeing this response was pretty funny, though. I reccomend giving it a read if you like battle manga and sci-fi. It has a lot of heart, tender moments, good characters and worlbuilding, intricate martial arts, fast paced action and an easy to follow plot. Alita is not even that long, standing at 51 chapters. It's one of the best I've ever read.

Brigadoon isn't a kids series...? Also, seeing you freak out about manga is a little goofy. A number of these series are quite well liked and have their fans, so to see them be written off as "generic" and "not worth anyone's time" is kind of eyebrow raising to me (I know a few people who are big fans of Kokoro Library, I cannot vouch for the manga of Dokkoida, but the anime was laugh out loud hilarious to me, I still see Tokyo Mew Mew cosplays all the time, Chobits is a classic, etc). I get it's easy to get burnt out when you are exposing yourself constantly to all sorts of media, and ultimately you should be able to have your own experience with the work whatever it may be, but I feel like it would have been more valuable to the audience watching if further research was done on each title, rather than just reading the manga itself. Furthermore, some titles I wish had more detail about your thoughts. Nothing about Chicago particularly stood out to me as obviously bad, so I think going more in depth would have made me understand a bit more what to expect from the series.

Tbf Oku Hiroya had a deadline for each chapter. Just like how Tybw bleach was rushed with its ending and Kubo is adding new scenes into the anime. If we get a gantz anime with good animation, Then hopefully Oku Hiroya will add extra scenes and make the ending longer and we can see what the rest of the team did after getting transported

So, the video is great, the editing too, I just have a few...I guess constructive criticisms if you accept those: -please do not 4k upscale/AI upscale manga panels. They come out...pretty shitty. For the entirety of the video I was thinking "man, why are these drawings so ugly?". Some don't even resemble their original -The gag of you hating how many terrible series you had to read was dragged a bit too much. I think it was fine up until the last big rant, especially since you were saying stuff like "if I have to read another one", but in the premise you let us now that the script for this video was done AFTER you read everything, so from a "narrative" standpoint it doesn't even make that much sense. I know that I sound annoying and that you don't *have to* do these things, I just think you should grow more because the idea and the editing is great
